Dear ,

Slots promoters' latest mantra is jobs, jobs, jobs. Listen to the Australian Retailers Association to see what happens to jobs in the real world when slots get legalized.

By 1995, slots and casinos had spread throughout most of Australia and now penetrate the nation at a rate of one machine per 110 residents. Senator D'Allesandro's soon-to-be-released slots casino bill would legalize five New Hampshire casinos, with a machine density per capita greater than Australia's.

Below is a recent press release showing what Australian retailers have learned the hard way: slots are job killers, and banning them would create hundreds of thousands of retail jobs.

Slots promoters second hugely misleading claim about casino jobs is that they would pay well, "$10 to $20 an hour, plus benefits."

The New Hampshire Public Policy Research Center has just released its analysis of likely casino wages (see slides 28-29). Using 2008 data, weighted average casino wages would be $9.60 per hour plus any tips.
