E-Books Will Outsell Paper Versions in Five Years

Sony has predicted that e-book sales will surpass those of traditional books within the next five years.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Steve Haber, the head of Sony's e-reader division, said: "Within five years there will be more digital content sold than physical content. Three years ago, I said within 10 years but I realised that was wrong - it's within five."

Publishers Pine for Universal E-Book Format

Giants and upstarts of publishing gathered at the annual BookExpo America here last week agreed e-books will transform the business but believe the big change will come when there is a standard format across which all e-books can be published and shared.

The industry has been going through a tumultuous period as Apple and Amazon duke it out for dominance in the nascent market for electronic books.

Both want their devices - the iPad and the Kindle - to be the one consumers use to read e-books.

Acer unveils e-book reader

Thanks to the Amazon Kindle and Apple iPad, e-books are gaining in popularity and with hundreds of new titles coming out every day, many companies are entering the fray.

The latest company to do so is Acer, which announced its Acer LumiRead e-book at the company's Source Home 2010 event.

The LumiRead, which comes with 6in display, is a compact e-book reader which comes with a non-glare screen, no backlit e-ink display, and a Qwerty keyboard.

Wildfire would like to welcome author Alysha Ellis.

Alysha Ellis

Julie: Welcome, Alysha, please tell us a little about yourself and how long you've been writing. Have you always gravitated toward being an author?

Alysha: Once upon a time there was a good little girl called...well, never mind, we'll just call her Alysha.

Alysha skipped through the forest talking to the nice fluffy animals, admiring the flowers and generally being extra nice and sweet. Then one day about four years ago, deep inside Alysha something terrible happened. Her inner tart woke up, stretched, sniffed the air and yelled, "What is all this sweet stuff?" Instantly Alysha began to turn from the good little girl she'd always been, and listening to the wicked whispers of her inner tart, began to write very naughty stories indeed. And you know what? Alysha discovered an amazing truth. Bad girls DO have all the fun.

Julie: Do you work on multiple projects at the same time?

Alysha: Fidelity is not my strong point, so it's one manuscript in first draft, one being polished and one waiting for release, as often as I can manage it

Julie: What do you hope for your writing career in the next few years? Any goals that you have yet to obtain that you have set for yourself?

Alysha: I'm on the way to where I want to be. I hope to have more releases with Ellora's Cave and my other publishers. I think the main goal I have yet to achieve is to have more time to devote to writing. If only I could make the outside world go away at will.

Julie: Anything your fans would be surprised to know about you?

Alysha: I was once the mechanic for a motor cycle racing team. Need your two stroke engine pulled down and repaired in half an hour. I'm your girl.

Julie: When you're not writing, what do you like to do to just kick back and have fun?

Alysha: I'm a skier. I love snow. People tell me this is because I live in Australia and I have to drive for seven hours to see it, and it only lasts for 10 weeks anyway. The thing I love about skiing is that it's the only time I can be happy about saying I'm going downhill fast.

Julie: Dealing with writing deadlines can be a challenge. What do you do to cope with the stress?

Alysha: The official answer is chocolate and champagne. The reality is days when there is no time for anything but work. Any social life goes out the window, and I get to the point where I am not sure I remember what daylight looks like.

Julie: What's next for you?

Alysha: My next book is a supernatural erotic, working title, A Warrior's Heart. Beneath the Earth live a race of people called the Dvalinn. All they want is to be left to live in peace, but a group of humans set out to destroy their entire race. Two Dvalinn warriors come to the surface to fight a battle to save their people from destruction. One woman stands in their way. The warriors must decide if she will become their lover or their destroyer.

Wasteland Series

In 2012, the world came to a grinding halt as radiation hit from a massive solar storm. Crops died, animals perished, cities fell and humans became little more than beasts themselves. Under the threat of starvation, civility was reduced to mere memory. Only the strongest men survived, and physically weaker women and children wasted to nothingness.

More than a century later, humanity struggles in the desert Wasteland that was left. The solar radiation rendered most women infertile, and the population dwindles more with each year that passes. Scattered up and down coasts, isolated cities eke out an existence from fishing, foraging and hunting for what little game remains. Outside the city walls, men face the threat of pirates and raiders.

Few women remain, divided into four classes-Wanderers, Whores, Breeders and Priestesses. They are as reviled as they are worshiped, a commodity any man must pay to touch.

There is only one rule in the Wasteland-survive.

Reunion by C. Margery Kempe
This story is rated 4 flames. Frequent, explicit love scenes described using graphic and direct language.

Syd parked herself near the indicated exit and tried not to look nervous.  It had been six months since she had seen Kevin and her head was filled with punishing self-doubts.  Chief among them was the fear that he would clap eyes on her and get right back on the plane, keeping that wide ocean between them.

Knock it off, she scolded herself.  It will be fine, but her heart pounded as she scanned the faces of the folks trickling out from customs.  What if he looked totally different from how she remembered?  It's not as if Syd hadn't made sure to capture only her best side in her Facebook profile photos.

What if the magic's not there?

As if in answer to her doubts, Kevin stepped out from the parted doors and looked around expectantly.  In the seconds it took to drink him in, a grin leapt to her lips, matching the bound her heart took.  He was so lovely!

"Kevin!" she yelled, desperately waving a hand as she trotted over toward him.  To her surprise, he dropped the red duffel bag he was carrying and swept her into a very dramatic swooning kiss, from which they both rose laughing and pink-faced.

"Sorry, couldn't help myself," Kevin apologized, his gaze searching her face to be sure it was all right.   "I've had six hours to think about having you in my arms again.  A bit embarrassing at times," he added with a rough whisper and another quick kiss.

Syd could hardly breathe, she was so excited.  The instant his lips met hers she had felt the sure surge, that hot wetness of creamy delight.  "I hate to tell you that we have to take a shuttle back to Grand Central before we can get to the hotel."

"Maybe it will be empty and we can sit in the back and snog," Kevin said, tickling her cheek with his stubble, pressing his teeth gently into her earlobe and making her even more wet.  Oh god, this was going to be a long bus ride!

But it wasn't as bad as she thought.  Kevin was eager to tell Syd about the interview that brought him over.  Not only had it been a good excuse to see her again, but quite a coup for a journalist better known in the blogosphere than in the paper editions.  But the elusive artist he would be profiling had seen and read some of his clips and declared him "adequate," as Kevin told her with that lopsided grin she first fell for back in that dark pub in Newcastle.

"If I can get her to open up to me," he continued, his hand resting comfortably on Syd's thigh, "Get her to talk about her technique, her influences, her love affairs, we're going to sell a lot of papers and my reputation will be made."

"That would be great," Syd agreed, admiring his profile and the way the hair whorled down the open neck of his shirt.  She could hardly wait to tear that shirt off him.  With difficulty, she tried to keep her thoughts on his words.

Kevin was on to her, though.  "You're undressing me in your mind, aren't you?  You naughty big city woman, taking advantage of a poor lad from the provinces.  I'm helpless before your feminine wiles."  Kevin leaned over and kissed her, gradually parting her lips and slipping his tongue into her mouth as Syd melted.  He let his hand drift from her thigh to the crotch of her khaki pants and made little swirls with his finger, before letting it dart down between her legs and making her gasp.

"Kevin," she whispered, grinning.  "Stop it!"

He grinned and moved his hand back to her thigh.  "I can't help it. Six months of wanting to feel you, be inside you, hear your laugh in my ear, hear your voice without the intercession of Skype."  Kevin leaned forward to speak directly into her ear.  "Feel how much I want you right now."

Syd glanced around them.  There was an elderly couple two rows ahead of them, sitting silently side by side, but facing the front of the bus.  Giggling, she reached for the front of his jeans. Oh my, yes he was ready for her.  Feeling the bulge in his trousers made her own panties wetter.  Syd thought she might be able to come just by leaning forward a little in the seat.

Emboldened, she reached for his zipper and surreptitiously began to lower it.  "Hey," Kevin said, but his eyes were looking heavy with desire, wanting to close.  His mouth was open and she could feel his breathing speed up.

"Going commando, I see," she whispered, slipping her hand between the lips of the zipper and reaching for his pulsating erection.  He groaned and Syd saw the elderly woman's head twitch around and bit her lip to hide a grin.  She let her fingers tickle up and down the length of his cock, pulling at a curl of hairs before tracing the veins back up to the trembling head.  Its heat warmed her fingers and she closed her eyes to enjoy the sensation.

Before she knew it, the bus was pulling up with a squeal of tires outside Grand Central.  Hastily she withdrew her hand from Kevin's trousers, making him groan with frustration this time even as he hastily zipped himself, pulling his shirttails out to better mask his excitement.

Hand in hand they crossed the few blocks to the little hotel hidden away so near the big terminal.  Syd had checked in that afternoon, preparing the room with a little incense, some snacks and a now well-chilled bottle of champagne.

"Well done," Kevin said, tossing his bag down and wrapping his arms around her in a warm embrace as the door closed behind them.  "Do you know how much I've been frustrated, being so far away even as you fill my eyes with your gorgeous image and your beautiful and stirring words?"  He ground his hips into her with a laugh, just to be sure she could still feel his stiffness.

"I can't believe you're finally here!" Syd said, before thrusting her tongue into his mouth and running her hands under his shirt.  "I have longed so much for your touch.  Yet I was afraid when you saw me that all the magic would be gone."

"Trust me," Kevin said, lifting her blouse over her head and cupping her breasts in his hand, sighing happily.  "The magic did not come from Newcastle.  It came from us.  I have never spent ten hours straight in a pub with anyone, not even to watch Manchester lose."  He stopped further speech by taking her nipple between his lips eagerly.

Syd groaned.  She tried to reach for his trousers, but he pushed her hands away and instead reached for hers, shoving her back against the wall at the same time.  In a moment, he had her khakis down around her ankles and was running his hands across the silky softness of her orange knickers.  He hooked a finger under the elastic, playing through her bush and then slipping his fingers between her wet lips as Syd staggered helplessly.

"Oh my, aren't we very wet today?" Kevin purred.  "Guess I should have checked the weather reports.  Good thing I brought my rubbers," he added with a grin.

"Shouldn't we go over to the bed?" Syd moaned.  "It's got mints on the pillows and everything."

"Not yet," Kevin said, watching her face carefully as he teased her clitoris with his index finger.  "I want to play."  After a moment of making her groan, he reached up to slip off her panties, letting them join her khakis at her ankles.  Syd lifted one leg to kick off the encumbrance before Kevin grabbed her thighs to hold her in place.

"What are you going to do now?" Syd asked, her breath hard and eyes nearly crossed, feeling dizzy with excitement.  By way of an answer, Kevin kneeled down and leaned in to fasten his lips on her mound.  She nearly lost her balance as his tongue thrust inside her and he sucked in.  His hot hands on her thighs steadied her some, but his hot mouth made her legs tremble as his impossibly agile tongue drove in again and again.

The tickle in her knees told Syd the orgasm was coming and she cried out his name as her hips began to buck.  Kevin never let go, though, wringing every last sensation from her slippery cunt.

"Oh god, that was good," she told him gratefully.  "Six months of masturbating just can't compare to your tongue."  Syd smiled at him, loving the wet look of his beard as he grinned up at her.

"That's only a start," he said, his voice rough with barely concealed passion as he unzipped his trousers and let them fall.

Syd immediately reached for his erection and grinned herself.  "Now, you'll be a good boy and come to bed."

"I want to be a bad boy," he argued, but laughed as Syd led him by the cock to the ample bed.

"Oh, you will, you will," Syd promised, reaching for one of the condoms she had left on the nightstand.  "I see great success ahead for you in the big city," she added, rolling the condom over his waving erection and reaching down to caress his balls.  "It must be because you get women to open up to you."  She fell back on the bed and opened her legs to welcome him.

"I just like to get to the heart of the matter," Kevin said, lifting her legs over his shoulders before thrusting inside her.  "I hope I can last the distance."

"When's your interview?" Syd asked, gasping as she felt another climax rising swiftly.

"Tuesday," Kevin said, trying to keep his thrusts slow as the sweat dropped from his brow.

"Plenty of time," Syd said as she bucked again, coming even harder than before.  "Plenty of time."
