ACF Western Conference, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Our ACF Washington State Chefs Association attendees had a great time in Albuquerque.  The conference seminars were informative and the local chefs and foodies showed off their culinary delights.

WE WON!  Our chapter is the ACF Western Regional "Chapter of the Year".  A special thanks to all of our members for making the award possible.  Our Chapter was also one of three western chapters to be awarded the ACF Western Region Chapter Achievement Award.  Great job everyone - let's keep the momentum going!  And there is more... Emily Wallace from Renton Technical College won the Student Chef of the Year cooking competition.  She has now qualified to compete for the national title in Anaheim this August.  Emily is a very dedicated culinary arts student - we are proud of you!  We would also like to recognize the Renton Technical College Hot Food Team and Janet Shaffer from Lake Washington Technical College for their participation in  the competitions.  It is always a great experience to compete with your peers.  We encourage all of you to compete at our Salon Competition at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy on June 19.

Monthly Meeting

Our mini tradeshow held last Monday was an informative and fun time for all - we all enjoyed meeting with our local vendors.  Check out our sponsors list below and thank them for their participation with some business.   Emily Wallace provided us with a superb demonstration of her ACF Western Regional winning entree - great job.  Thank you to Renton Technical College, John Fisher CEC CCE AAC and their students for their hospitality.  We hope to make this trade show format a regular February event.

IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
2010
An important part of the ACF experience is giving back to the community. Here is a perfect chance to help your neighbors and community in case of a natural disaster.  As you may know, problems with the Howard Hansen Dam increase the danger of severe flooding in our area each winter.
For that reason The Red Cross will establish their emergency kitchen in our area every November through March for the next five years.  Click here for more information They need chefs to be trained to help run this facility in case it is needed.  Chef Stefanie Branica went through the training on January 30/31 and another training is scheduled for March 13 and 14.  If you are looking for an opportunity to give back to the community please contact Stefanie Branica as soon as possible to add your name to the list or to get more information.  You should have prior supervisory experience.
