Values
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your values determine the content of your life, whether you're aware of them or not. They determine how you spend your time, what warrants your attention, and what committed action you're willing to take.
Typically, books on this subject list scores of values and ask you to find yours and list them in order of importance. Personally, I've always found this difficult, if not impossible, to do. I find that values are more easily discerned by looking at what you actually do. How do you spend your time? And by your dreams? What do you picture yourself doing that you may not be doing now?
In societies older than ours, values are often inculcated by the culture. For example, there are four stages of life in traditional Hindu society: the Student stage, the stage of the House-holder, the Elder, and the Ascetic. Each has proscribed values that pass from one generation to the next.
In the west, for the most part, we invent ourselves and choose our own values. To be doing things as our parents and grandparents did them is usually considered quaint at best and mindless or laughable at worst. But since the beginning of the 20th century, modernization in the west has moved at such a pace that re-invention with each new generation may be simple self-preservation.
Each of us is left to answer the questions anew: Who am I? How should I live?
I witness the shifting of my clients' values if they've chosen the process of deep healing on all levels. Sometimes increased awareness brings a sense of loss of identity, an inability to enjoy activities and people who once were satisfying, increasing restlessness with one's work or the status quo in general. The question then arises: NOW who am I?
Recently a client was feeling self-critical of her television habits. Like some of us, she'd quit watching the news, but now found herself watching what she referred to as "mindless" comedies. Intuiting indicated that in a desire to turn away from economy-fueled worries, she was watching comedies for the elixir of laughter, and that it was consistent with her new desire to harness her thoughts and remain as peaceful as possible in the face of challenges.
Some of my long-term clients have questioned new yearnings to move away from hectic jobs or urban lives to simpler work in more rural settings. Where they "running away?" "Being impractical?" "Shirking their responsibilities?" they wondered. We intuited a re-sorting of their values, and when Living Peacefully rose to the top of their list, it was easier to see that what they desired to move away from was probably what they should avoid anyway; that the impracticalities of changing jobs or location could be managed by a further re-visioning of their values; and that on-going responsibilities could be managed in another way that didn't include abandoning them.
In a conversation with a couple who had a most unusual child, born at the level of Christ or Buddha consciousness, they asked what they could do to support him. We discussed the deep clearing work of my practice, which could potentially bring them into closer alignment with their child and the changes that could ensue in their lives if they chose it. The parent who supports the family as an attorney asked, "Does that mean I could become discontented as an attorney?" I said that it was possible, unless he were doing something like mediation, which strives to reach agreements between parties rather than pitting them against one another and working to "win," which means someone "loses." Without hesitation he said that his primary value was supporting his family, so like the Hindu House-holder, he elected to wait until such time as his responsibilities and values changed.
Your present values, whether conscious or not, are your answer to the question" "How should I live?" Bringing them into awareness is the first step. Asking yourself if they're producing the life you want is the second. If the answer is no, revising them may bring you closer to your heart's desire. Knowing and naming them helps us to live in integrity, keeps us on our path daily, and allows us to make decisions that take us as close as possible to the best life we can envision for ourselves, remembering that the life we have is the one we've chosen.
| Pet health tips
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My practice includes many four-legged clients. Based on that experience, I'd like to share some tips for keeping your dog healthy and contented.
I've never scanned a dog that I didn't find to be far better served by a raw meat diet (with a full understanding of what its components are) than even the best commercial diets. Some of what dog owners have observed after putting their dogs on correctly prepared raw meat diets include a clearing up of runny eyes, an end to excessive shedding and itchy skin, shinier coats, and better formed stools. What I've observed on succeeding scans is a resolution of certain chronic health conditions. Here's a link to an article by the veterinary advisor to Only Natural Pet Store: Raw Meat Diet
Many of my canine (and feline) clients benefit from Seven Forests Forsythia 18, a Chinese herbal detoxification formula. I find that it does what it claims to do: fights bacterial infection, clears toxins, soothes inflammation, and reduces allergic reactions. Here's a link: Seven Forests ForsythiaDogs' periodontal health is coming under scrutiny these days, as most dogs over the age of 4 have significant gum disease. As much as I adore my Picco, I just couldn't imagine brushing her teeth and went on a search for an alternative. I began with Pedigree Dentastix (there may be many good brands out there) and was so pleased with what it did for my dog's gums that I recommend it to my four-legged clients. Of course, if you like brushing your dog's teeth, never mind :-) |
| An amazing story of intuition!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just for fun and the sheer mind-bogglingness of it, I'm sending along a link to a story about intuitive knowing. I first heard this story from Harold McCoy, a renowned intuitive and the hero of the story, when he and I were both speaking at the same conference. I admit to a hint of skepticism when I heard it....until my first teacher, another extraordinary intuitive sent me the following link. This is the story as told by the scientist to whom it happened and confirms the story practically verbatim as I first heard it. If you have ten minutes to spend, prepare to be amazed! An astonishing story of intuition
