Greetings!
This week was incredible. Wrapped up VBS with many of the kids memorizing the Ten Commandments, then sharing the Gospel presentation, witnessed door to door in Aubrey, shared the Gospel and living water at the pool and got to be present when a young man repented of his sin and trusted Christ right before my eyes! I hope you will read on! Think someone else might be encouraged by these words, then please scroll to the bottom and use the forward link to send them a copy!
Celebrities are dropping like flys
Michael Jackson
The past week four celebrities died: Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson and Billy Mayes. The eternal fate of these people is now set.

Standing in front of Starbucks, two friends of mine and I were talking when we realized the couple sitting at the table were talking about Michael Jackson's death. "Do you think he is resting in peace?", I asked. This lead to a spiritual conversation. We took them through the commandments, shared about God's justice and the wrath to come. Then took them to Jesus, the cross and the empty tomb. By the end of the conversation we said, "you might have repented and trusted in Christ while we have been standing here." The young man said, "Yes, I did"! Wow! Afterwards we were praying with him and praising God for His goodness. Suddenly we were startled by the presence of another person. We looked up and another man had joined us. He said he saw us praying and decided to stop. He literally left his car running and came to pray with us. I told him that this man had just repented and trusted Christ for salvation. He looked at him and said, "welcome aboard!"

Amazing!
Door to Door
Door Three Approaches

Recently we have done some witnessing going door to door in the community. Several people have asked how we go about doing this. Here are three approaches that we have used successfully.
Please check out the video that Tom and I made explaining these approaches.

Have a prayer meeting
We learned this method from Brad Aldrich of Cross Pollination Ministries. What we do is schedule a prayer meeting at a home or a church. We then go door to door and ask for prayer requests. The conversation can go something like this:

ding-dong

"Hello"

"Hi, I am Carl. My friends and I are having a prayer meeting later this afternoon and we wonder if there is anything we could pray about?"

Normally, the person will give us some general prayer for the nation or for a relative or friend. So we then follow the initial question with, "Thanks. Is there anything we can specifically be praying about for you?" The person may or may not share anything else at this point.
At this point we use several spring boards to the Gospel. One way we have used is when coupling the prayer meeting with evangelism training. Then we simply tell the person that we are in training to share our faith and ask if they would help us practice by roll playing with us. Of course, if you are a seasoned evangelist, then this approach is not going to be honest. Therefore, in other cases, we will simply ask a transitional question like, "do you have a church home?" or "do you have any religious background?" At this point you are in a spiritual conversation. Listen intently. Most non-Christians will lead to some "good person" approach which will allow you to go to the Ten Commandments to show them their sin, God's wrath and the need for repentance and faith in Jesus.

Move on to the next house and continue gathering prayer requests. Then go back and pray.

One last thing that Brad suggested is without telling the people you are coming back, make a plan to go back and visit them again in three weeks. Three weeks is good because it is long enough to not be a bother, yet soon enough that they remember when you were there before. If you divided up your neighborhood, you could cover ten houses every week, then on the third week you would have ten houses to follow up and ten to visit first time.

Invitation to an event
The second method of witnessing door to door that we use is to go to invite the neighborhood to something. For instance, on Saturday we went to Aubrey and went door to door to hand out tickets to a movie night at Midway Baptist Church, where Craig and his family worship. The dialog went something like this:

Ding dong

Hello

Hi, my name is Carl. I'm representing Midway baptist church. There will be a free movie night tomorrow night and we want to invite you and your family.

Ok. Thanks.

So, can I ask, do you have a church home?

Boom!  You are into a spiritual conversation. We also left them with a Gospel tract. If no one is home and there is no local ordinance against soliciting, we leave the ticket and tract on the door. We have also done this to invite to VBS, movie nights and other events at our church.

Survey Method
Finally, we have plans to use a survey method. Living Waters used to offer a tablet of intelligence test surveys that we happen to have some left. Or you can make your own survey. The survey starts with questions in the natural realm and then moves to the spiritual. The Gospel message is on the back. So you can leave the survey with them so they can read it. Obviously the survey can quickly lead to a spiritual conversation.

I hope these ideas are helpful. Please let me know how they work for you. If you have other methods that you have used please let me know, whether they seemed successful or not. Then we can all learn effective methods.

Memory Verse
But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,"that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Romans 10:8-10 (NIV)
