"These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and
when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deuteronomy 6:6-7The Bible tells us to meditate on the law and talk about it. How can we do that if we do not know what the law is. This week us vacation bible school at our church. I am teaching a group of five year olds thru sixth graders how to memorize the ten commandments. After just two nights of practice one of the girls was able to do it tonight! I am confident that many more will have them memorized by the end of the week.
Why memorize the ten commandments?
First, the law is a mirror to show us our sin. 1 Timothy 1:8 says the law is good when used properly. We use the law, like Jesus did, in reaching the last to shoe them their sin and hence their need fir a savior. It is the bad news that precedes the good. The diagnosis that precedes the cure.
Second, Jesus says that if you are his disciple then you will obey. Once a person realizes that Christ died for him, out of gratitude obiedience should follow. So by knowing the law we can obey it. Not to earn salvation or be self righteous like the pharasees but as a thank offering to our Lord.
Third, you could win $20,000! Wow! Ok, this might not be a scriptural reason, but it is nice incentive. Go to

finger method" is what I used to teach the kids at our VBS. I watched the video one time several months ago and was able to memorize the commandments after one viewing!
Try it! It will help you while witnessing and leading people through the Good Test.
