Think Global, Act Local.

Newsletter #12/2010

Greetings!

This newsletter highlights a study by IBM on Globalization and Sustainability where surveyed CEO's say they believe a global mind-set is the number one quality new hires should have. I've also included a current article on the debate in California on Prop 23. 'Yes' or 'No', what do you think?

Think Global, Act Local, what does that really mean? If you want your company to understand how to work better across country regions, yet be effective in local markets, you'll need a strategy to make it successful.

Think Global: IBM's 2010 Global CEO Study

Change management and the ability to handle complexity are the key issues CEOs declared necessary to navigate globalization.

When asked to define this more in detail, they listed "People Skills" as one of the top competencies needed to manage during times of change.

"Creativity", "Integrity", and "Global Thinking" are the most important qualities looked for in new recruits.

Interestingly enough, CEOs challenge current MBA programs (where most of the top firms recruit talent from) whether or not they really meet the standards required in our ever-globalizing business community.

Act Local: Prop 23, yes or no?
There's an interesting argument on both sides, but it looks like republicans and democrats in California are coming together on this one...

With less than a month until the election, the debate continues on Prop 23. If passed, it would suspend California's greenhouse regulations until the state's unemployment rate fell to 5.5% or less, for 12 months.

Those campaigning "Yes" are mostly large oil firms like
Valero and Tesoro Corporations. Marathon Oil of Ohio just chipped in, too.

As for the "No" campaign, most major money trails seem to lead back to Silicon Valley, highlighted with such names as Schmidt (Google), Packard (HP) and Doerr (venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins).
