Getting married in the BVI, Boat Shows, and summer fun May 2009
Hi again!

The summer is approaching fast and yes, the temperature is heating up in this part of the Caribbean.  May, June and July seem to be very popular wedding months so why not focus on Weddings in Paradise this month?  I know just the wedding expert in the BVI and have a list of perfect honeymoon yachts for a romantic holiday.

I was lucky to meet some new crews  at this time.  I popped over to St Thomas two weeks ago for small Boat Show which was held at the gorgeous and upmarket Yacht Haven Grande in Charlotte Amalie.  It was nice to get to know new boats and also to visit with old friends.  And I get to do it all again in two weeks time when we have a Spring boat show in Tortola!!

Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to see dolphins swimming around our boat this month!  But I did see the rare sight of someone walking two goats on a long leash.  Rare, because generally the goats, cows, and chickens wander around quite freely in the BVI.  The only animals that qre usually tied up are the donkeys, which is a bit like locking  your car.  Thumbs up for islands life!

Bareboat Charters

I have been visiting several local charter companies in the last two weeks.   I worked for a charter company on Tortola for 11 years and it is interesting to see the different operational procedures.  I have now published a page on my website for bareboat charters.  As always, there will be additional information but for now, please do take a look and let me know if you have any questions.

BVI WEDDINGS

Wedding Arch on beachIf you've always wanted to get married on a caribbean island, but are worried about organizing a wedding so many miles away, then the British Virgin Islands  has the perfect Caribbean island for you.  With the BVI Wedding planner in charge, your wedding day will run as smoothly as an ice-cold pina colada!  Not only is the BVI is easier to get to than most caribbean islands, it has wonderful beaches and ample accommodation options on island, as well as many charter yachts to choose from, for added accommodation AND the option to sail around and discover the islands for the yourselves or the visitors that are flying in to attend your wedding.

Visit www.bviweddings.com  to get more information on getting married in the BVI.

Heather Anderson is a close friend of mine and I have seen first hand the effort and care she puts into arranging a wedding.  She knows so many people in the islands which helps avoiding glitches.  Not only will she take care of the formalities, but can take care of the venue, the food, the flowers, the hair, the music, as well as the common wedding jitters!!

Here is a few of the yachts I'd recommend as perfect honeymoon and or anniversary boats. Let's face it, what a way to finish your special day, by sailing off on your own private yacht!

Crewed:
- Corus -  45 ft monohull with a wonderful and experienced crew.  Offering house champagne throughout the week, gourmet meals, private beach picnics and personal Trip Journal complete with video/photos.

- Crystal Clear - 62 ft monohull.  With an enormous aft master cabin, this beautiful boat sets the perfect mood for a romantic getaway.  The crew aims to please and they even have a special honeymoon/anniversary package!

- Pas de Deux - 60 ft catamaran also offering a special honeymoon package:  Private transfer to yacht, flowers on arrival, champagne reception, romantic sunset dinner at Anegada's most beautiful beach, private picnics on stunning, secluded beaches, and luxurious owners master cabin with walk round bed with full en-suite facilities .

Bareboats;
There are quite a few smaller bareboats that are easy to manage with just two, that offer comfortable cockpit space and on monohulls, a great large aft cabin!!  Some catamarans come as owner's versions which means one hull is dedicated to one cabin.  And of course, if you are not confident to sail your own boat there is usually still one extra cabin on a bareboat that can be used for a captain.
ST Thomas Spring Show - Crewed Yachts
Three Moons under sail
I love crewed boat shows.  You get to see so many different types of boats and meet so many different types of people.  And yet all are providing the same service.  An amazing boating vacation.    Below are some of the yachts I spent some time with.

Three Moons - 72ft Irwin - Beautifully maintained monohull - inside and out - , she is elegant and comfy at the same time.  Captain and Chef are owners and have been chartering together for 11 years.   Chef Shelly has received many culinary Awards and has a cookbook in its third printing.  She also offers a variety of Spa treatments onboard Three Moons during charter.  Rental fee starts at $14,000 per week and she sleeps a maximum of 8 guests.

Mustang Sally - 44 ft catamaran.  A very popular smaller cat with a fun crew.  The boat is bright and airy and in great shape.  Again great food to be had, everything is made from scratch onboard.  Doug and Wendy also offer 3 types of charters, fully crewed/all inclusive, captain only charters (no provisioing/chef) as well as a halfboard option which includes breakfast and lunch and beverages and allows you to visit local restauranst for dinner.  All inclusive rental fee starts at $7,200 and she sleeps a maximum of 8 guests.

Islander - 50ft monohull - affordable family style yacht.  Get a real cruising feel and learn to sail with Capt.   They offer ASA instruction for a small fee and are great with kids.  They even have a black cat onboard!  Their rate for 4 (families only) start at $5,900 but they also offer a captain only option which includes breakfast, lunch and softdrinks for only $4,200 per week.

Serenity Now - 96ft Fedship.  Wow!  I can't think of anything else needed to describe this boat.  The boat's new owner spared no expense in complete refit and they thought of everything!  I enjoyed a wonderful cup of Nespresso with Chef Jenna, who is well qualified and experienced in her job.  I was  a little surprised that the boat only sleeps 6 guests in 3 gorgeous ensuite cabins though.  One cabin has the option of converting two oversized twin beds into a King bed.  A 32ft Intrepid is included for exploration and fishing trips.  Serenity Now is currently offering an all inclusive rate of $41,000 for 6 pax for charters in the BVI or USVI for the remainder of 2009 (excluding Festive Season)
