President's Message(Rob Kauffmann, President and CEO)
March greetings from
"across the pond" in Merry Old England!
Though
I've certainly heard grumblings that it's not so "Merry" these days, I did want
to share with you what is going on in the UK; how it is touching Sealoflex in
a very profound and positive way economically, and how you should benefit as
well.
In spite
of the doom and gloom forecasts, the London Metropolitan area continues to be a
stronghold for Sealoflex. In fact, our
sales this year are on par with last year and you would be right to ask how and
why. Though we have not seen the number
of larger jobs that we saw last year, we have been able to keep our sales
numbers up by pushing hard into maintenance and repair. These smaller jobs in quantity have added up
to impressive numbers and I would encourage you to explore the same
options. In tough economic times
consumers naturally hold on to what they have for as long as possible and
Sealoflex, in an ongoing maintenance plan, can increase your bottom line
exponentially.
Another
huge advantage of using Sealoflex is that you can do smaller portions of roofs
as budgets allow, and once the job is completed, still receive a warranty. And, if correct maintenance procedures are
adopted, the warranty can be renewed indefinitely.
Continued
good health and success
Rob

WELCOME! Anne Ellington, Vice President and General Manager
Having just returned
from the RCI show and conference in Dallas,
my degree of optimism in our industry and the immediate opportunities
that are before us has been greatly reinforced. In attendance were
architects, specifiers, consultants, inspectors, contractors, waterproofers,
and the list goes on. I spoke with many of these professionals,
discussing the global economy and economic flux and with great delight many of
them spoke very optimistically about the long and short-term
prospects. Euphemistically many likened it to making lemonade out of
lemons and some took the stance of controlling their own destiny; not allowing
others to cloud their outlook and lower the standards they have developed
through years of toil, commitment and dedication.
What I am not promoting
is an irresponsible, Pollyanna attitude. But, I would like to encourage
those of you on the fence to start moving forward; helping to create a
groundswell movement so we can all take the necessary steps to build up our
industry. We have already seen this positive upswing from a number of our
contractors and distributors and that is most encouraging.
Most of us have probably
experienced a pull-back on job starts during these rocky months, but the good
news is we're starting to see some of these larger projects phased in
again. Yet, we've also seen a significant rise in the use of Sealoflex
waterproofing systems and coatings to deliver recovery options for building
owners. These contractors have pushed hard in the existing market of
maintenance and repair and are significantly increasing their market share;
keeping cash flow moving and protecting the bottom line. Even our
president Rob Kauffmann will tell you from personal experience in the UK that
rethinking your market is one way to make sure you don't just survive, but
flourish during tough times.
Our sales and technical
divisions are available to support you with your projects. Our research
and development divisions are also working diligently to provide the support
you need for any job. The Sealoflex team wants to be a part
of your rebuilding and we would like to know how we can assist. Remember,
we are here to serve you.
Have a great month!
Anne

Sealoflex Salutes
Mike Renninger, 2008 Top Growth Salesperson for Sealoflex!
Mike got
involved in the roofing industry in 1990 working for his father, Dick
Renninger, as a manufacturers rep.
Ultimately Mike's dream of putting out his own "shingle" came to
fruition when he was able to secure some product lines and Renninger
Architectural Sales Company was born in 1992.His strategic relationships have allowed an opportunity to sell a wide
variety of products in the roofing industry and to meet great people.
Mike believes
his secret for success is his understanding of the importance of customer
service; returning calls in a timely manner, exhibiting confidence in the
product and always putting himself in his customer's shoes. He loves his relationship with Sealoflex because
"the decision makers listen to input from customers and reps. Not so with other companies." And further, "Sealoflex offers products and
solutions that contractors and owners are interested in. That certainly helps."
Thus far,
Mike's favorite Sealoflex project is one he is currently finishing; The
Sandpiper Condominiums (see photo).
Located on Marco Island, Florida, this project is also one of the
largest jobs he's ever tackled. The
twenty story building needed the entire existing stucco surface removed and replaced
by a new Coraflex wall system. The
project size was approximately 180,000 square feet of wall. With true humility, Mike explains "I can't
claim sole responsibility for putting the project together. It was a team effort, and certainly many
people were instrumental in helping the project to come off successfully. In particular, Matt Sarsfield, Bill Young and
Santiago Gala of Sealoflex and Remo
Capolino, PE, RRC,
Associate Principal and Scott Chamberlain, Senior Associate, of WJE Engineeers/Architects/Materials
Scientiists deserve special mention."
Way to go
Mike! We're proud to have you
on the Sealoflex team and wish you continued success!

SALES SPEAK Don Moors, Sales Manager
In February, Sealoflex participated in the two AIA trade shows; the Design Technology Exposition in Miami and the Build Palm Beach 2009 Products Show in West Palm Beach. We were pleased to be at both shows and had the opportunity to visit with many of Florida's top architects.
The Sealoflex display sample which drew the most interest was our sample of ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) covered with Sealoflex Flexobase and Coraflex. This provides ICF with a flexible, impact-resistant masonry layer covered with a flexible, waterproof and very attractive outer finish. For additional information about Flexobase and or Coraflex, please call your Sealoflex Representative or our technical staff in Charleston (800-770-6466) or Miami (786-999-9799) to assist you. You can also review these and all Sealoflex products on our website. Don

TECH TALK Bill Young,Technical Manager, Applications and Warranties
Last month I talked about the advantages of the CT System. This month I want to talk about the advantages of the water based system. When I talk to contractors and architects about the CT System, it is not uncommon for them to ask, "why do I even need to bother with the water-based products?" I have several reasons; first, color. The water-based system comes in many standard colors and can be tinted to a custom color. The CT System is only available in white or gray. Second, the water-based system is eco-friendly. We are all trying to think "green" and our water-based system provides a "greener" option. Third, it is a little more economical. With our current economic conditions, we are all looking to save wherever we can. I personally like working with water-based products rather than solvents, because they are usually easier to use and easier to clean up. For metal roofs, which are usually well sloped, I would always use the water-based products (color and economy). When coating an existing roof to obtain energy star ratings, you need to use our water-based Finish Coat to meet the requirements for Energy Star (color, economy, green). When coating a wall as a liquid applied building wrap, I would always use the water-based product (economy). And, when working on decorative decks, you will need the color and texture options of our water-based systems (color). So, to answer the question, "why bother with the water-based products?" let me count the ways.
