Summer Fun That Won't Burn Your Wallet
A Message from the President

Dear Parents,

When we were planning the first Rainbow Academy, my dream was to keep this a family venture. I am fortunate to say that I have had the pleasure of sharing this journey with my wife, sons, daughters-in-law, sister, niece and nephew and the reality has exceed my dream.

On June 18, I proudly watched the next generation of my family complete another Rainbow Academy milestone. In Woodbridge, my granddaughter Ashley graduated Kindergarten, along with the friends she has made over her lifetime as a Rainbow Academy student.

Rainbow Academy will always be about family and the friends that become part of our extended family. Congratulations to all our graduates and their family!  We hope you'll come back to visit us year after year and maybe even have a reunion with your friends as part of the summer camp program.

As always, thank you for your trust in us.

Warm regards,
Guy Falzarano
President & CEO

Summer Fun That Won't Burn Your Wallet

Many of us have been dreaming about summer for what has felt like forever.  In past years,  there were big vacations to plan.  However in these difficult economic times, those same trips are not realistic for many families.

Here's the good news....You don't have to break the bank to have fun this summer!  Think back on some of your fondest childhood memories and often they are the simpliest of moments... catching fire flies on your family camping trip, the time the camel spit at your mom at the zoo, bike rides on a family trail in the country.  Having fun doesn't cost a dime.  Here are some ideas for easy and economical fun:

1.      Fill spray bottles with water and squirt each other.  You'll laugh and keep cool at the same time.
2.      Make a rock garden. Together, find varied rocks and paint them.  Your child would also enjoy using glitter glue on the rocks.  These lovely paperweights make great gifts from your children and look beautiful in your garden.
3.      Go to the zoo!  When is the last time you visited an area zoo or aquarium?  It may seem trite to you but with your child, you get to experience the zoo through "new" eyes.
4.      Read..Read..Read, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen.   Afterwards go to your park and do your own bear hunt.  Remember to bring bottled water, sunscreen and your imagination.
5.      Cool camping.  Bring sleeping bags into one convenient room and you can camp without bugs for the night.  Tell stories, read books, build a pretend fire so that you can toast marshmallows.  Be careful, even pretend roasted marshmallows can get too hot.  Remember, to bring snacks, books, flashlights and your imagination.
6.      Please share any ideas for inexpensive fun in the comment section of Ask the Expert blog on www.rainbowacademy.com.

Remember in most cases, if you act excited and look like you are having fun... your child will too!  Fun is free when the ideas are in your own head.  Just use your imagination.  Have a great summer!
