Santa's Brigade
Sue and Jackie prepare the gifts for Santa's Brigade
Pictured above, WRC Administrative Program Manager Jackie Showell and Coordinator of Volunteers and Programs Sue Deutch prepare holiday gifts to be distributed.

WRC Staff, Volunteers, and Board of Directors participated in Santa's Brigade this year, providing gifts for families through several charities, including the Crime Victims Center of Chester County, Family & Community Service of Delaware County, Frederick Douglass Christian School, Maternal Child Health Consortium, Mothers' Home and Melmark. Over 1300 toys and presents were collected this year!
Many heartfelt thanks to all those who participated!

Holiday Luncheon for Volunteers
Karen and Tara enjoy the great food and company at the Volunteer Holiday Luncheon this year.

WRC volunteers Karen Falcone and Tara Jones enjoyed lively conversation and excellent food at the WRC Holiday Luncheon for Volunteers this year!

WRC's holiday party was a great success thanks to the hard work of Shelly VanClief, and generous donations by several local businesses.  The buffet table was filled with wraps from Christopher's & Flavors Cafe, salads from Frankie's Fellini Trattoria Cafe and sandwiches from Duffy's Catering &Trattoria Guiseppe.  Drinks were provided by Beverage World. Clay's Creative Corner Bakery donated a beautiful cake and The Ultimate Bake Shoppe gave us a tray of delicious cookies.  The room was decorated with poinsettias from Produce Junction.

A very special thanks to The Saturday Club, whose hospitality made our celebration possible.

WRC was honored along with a number of other charities at a dinner at Citizens Bank Park on December 13,  2010. The evening featured a number of agencies receiving grants from Phillies Charities Inc. this year, including the Women's Resource Center! The WRC is very grateful for this generous contribution from the Phillies and looks forward to a winning season for both the Phillies and the WRC in 2011.
Welcome to 2011!

Volunteer Spotlight

Lisa Satteson
Lisa Satteson, WRC's Board President, came to us via board member, Lisa Kohn, in 2006 and has been an invaluable contributor to the work and mission of the WRC. Last year she co-chaired our very successful Women's Leadership Luncheon and is currently working closely with WRC Executive Director Michele Daly around fundraising and on setting-up a comprehensive program evaluation plan. Lisa works as Director of Values in Practice at Catholic Health East in their system-wide initiative to improve patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. She is also a "Six Sigma Black Belt" in business management strategy. Lisa's drive and passion for life are evident in everything she does. This past fall she finished in the top 9% at the New York City Marathon! (She's currently training for the Boston Marathon this spring.)  When asked about her passion for the WRC, Lisa replied:  "To help better the lives of women and girls and also work side by side with some of the most exceptional women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, is something that I will always treasure." WRC "treasures" Lisa and all she does for us!
Resource of the Month:

The Mission of the Women's Law Project is to create a more just and equitable society by advancing the rights and status of all women throughout their lives. To this end, we engage in high-impact litigation, advocacy, and education.

Throughout its history, the WLP has brought and won lawsuits challenging gender discrimination. It has worked to eliminate gender discrimination in laws and institutions, to promote changes in the legal system that will improve the status and opportunities of women and their families, to improve the responses of public agencies to women's needs, to educate the public about the status of women's rights, and to empower women by providing information which enables them to address problems in their lives.

The Women's Law Project has been a great resource for the WRC over the years with their programs for women in need of legal assistance.
