Well...we aren't really prepared to share the survey results just yet, but we are combing over the responses and will be ready to announce additional classes over the next couple of weeks.
Per last week's e-mail, we did add a non heated class to our Sunday schedule and it was great to practice with new, returning, and incumbent yogis'!
In addition, we are changing up our Friday morning schedule. Beginning this Friday, October 21st, Tammy will be teaching TWO All Level Vinyasa Flow Classes back to back.We will keep both classes on the schedule through November to see which one generates the most interest and attendance. May the best time win!
Class times:
8:00 - 9:00 am
9:30 - 10:30 am
We want to thank those of you who took the time to let us know what we can do to enhance your current experience at the studio and to understand what it will take to bring you back or bring you in for the first time.

Lightening of the Body, Heart and Soul Weight Loss
through Ayurveda and Yoga
with Jean Marie Belzile and Susan Morgan-Barton
November 5th & 6th
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
This 2-day workshop will help you gain knowledge about YOUR unique body; knowledge that you will carry with you throughout your lifetime. You will recognize signs and symptoms of when you begin to go out of balance and the knowledge of what you can do to bring it back before it turns into illness and disease.
More than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge). You will determine what your constitution is, if you have any imbalances and how you can get back to (and stay) balanced and healthy.
Each day, we begin with a yoga class that incorporates ayurvedic principles consistent with the weight loss/maintenance program you will be experiencing.
After yoga, we will talk about food and lifestyle changes that allow you to cleanse your body of toxins, improve your digestion, elimination, lymphatic system and overall health; physically and mentally.
After Lunch we will practice digestive meditation practices before we continue the Ayurvedic lessons. Each Day will be completed with an additional Yoga class and meditation.
By developing a keen understanding of your own body and mind, by learning to recognize the signs and symptoms of when you begin to go out of balance, you can make subtle shifts in your diet and lifestyle that will keep you at a healthy weight. This is knowledge that you will carry with you throughout your lifetime!!
I have been following this approach to food for 2 months and am amazed at how much better I feel. More energy, more focus, with an all around sense of well being. It is so true - we are what we eat!
Folks are already registering for this enlightening workshop and space is limited. Don't miss out.
Click here for details and to sign up.
NOTE: If you cannot participate in the 2-day program, you can still take the yoga class at 9:00 am each morning.
Class pass or drop in fee applies.
These 2 classes will replace our normal weekend classes BUT just for November 5th and 6th. |

Inversions may sound scary, even intimidating, but next time you are in a yoga class and the teacher suggests inversions, don't panic.
Inversions come in all sizes and shapes....see photos below. And one size does not fit all. I have classes where shoulder stand is exactly what my body is asking for and others where legs up the wall is better. And thanks to the headstand props we have at the studio I am working on taking headstand at the wall. Sometimes I use tripod balance on my mat to work on my balance and courage, lifting one leg and then the other. And while I haven't made it from tripod balance to tripod headstand yet, I won't give up!
According to an article in Yoga Journal written by Natasha Rizopoulos, practitioners who spend time upside down in inversions report benefits ranging from better sleep, focus, and digestion, to seeing the world from a different perspective.
Shifting your body's relationship to gravity may improve various physiological functions, such as lymphatic drainage and the return of blood to the heart.
Tremendous satisfaction also comes from methodically and progressively approaching poses that are challenging and sometimes fear inducing (like tripod headstand for me!).
So next time the teacher says it's inversion time, open your mind and turn upside down!

SURYA NAMASKARA A AND B SURYA WHAT???
| |
| Surya Namaskara | The Sanskrit term Surya namaskara (pronounced SOOR-yah nah-mahs-KAHrah) is know in English as "salute to the sun" or perhaps more common - sun saluation and is a common sequence of yoga poses.
The physical base of the practice links together twelve asanas in a dynamically performed series. These asanas are ordered so that they alternately stretch the spine backwards and forwards. A full round of Surya namaskara is considered to be two sets of the twelve poses with a change in the second set to moving the opposite leg first through the series.
Surya Namaskara A takes us through the 1st 12 asanas (poses). Surya Namaskara B adds in Warrior I.
Click here for a visual illustration of both series. Surya Namaskara is practiced in all of our Vinyasa Flow classes. We encourage all students to follow their own perfect pace and learn about their own breath's movement and ability. |
