What You
Should Know About
"The Cloud"
Written by Marty Kaufman,
as seen in
The Business Press

Technology
is amazing. It is hard to deal with just how fast things are
changing. It was just a year or two ago and the word "Cloud
Computing" was uttered. Since the first time one of my
clients said the words to me, I have been standing at a
white board or scratching sketches on napkins to illustrate
cloud computing scenarios. So what is "The Cloud" and how
could you take advantage of it?

Leadership Management
Development Center (LMDC) Leadership Thought
|
|
I have heard
many times that “the challenge is not that we don’t make
good decisions, the real challenge is that we don’t
manage the decisions we make very well.”
I think that
hits the proverbial “nail on the head” these days with
the way most managers actually run their operations. The
critical thing is not “decision making, but decision
managing.”
With that
thought in mind, I want to focus on what John C. Maxwell
said in his book Ethics 101. Underneath his chapter on
“Living a 24-Karat-Gold Life,” subtitled Character
Counts, John makes a great point about making our
decisions based on the Integrity guideline called, “the
Golden Rule.”
John says
that “decisions, not conditions, determine our ethics.”
He goes on to say, “people of poor character tend to
blame their choices on circumstances. Ethical people
make good choices regardless of circumstances.” This is
a great rule to live by, especially in this day and age
where our environment and surroundings seem to be
changing every minute of the day sometimes, and chaos
seems to be all around us. Managing decisions based on
the golden rule will always be a great decision.
Remember
that Character Counts as John says, and that we need to
lead our lives with Character First. If you would like
to know more or would like to schedule Dane Deutsch to
come and host a seminar on any of John Maxwell’s 101
books on Ethics, Relationships, Equipping, Attitude, and
Leadership just give him a call at 877- 327-6385 (877-

inspirational speaker as well as a facilitator for John
C. Maxwell’s book “Developing The Leader Within You.”

Thinking About Hiring Your Own

Businesses today wrestle and grapple with the thought of hiring their
own technology support staff to support their daily need for IT support
without fully understanding the risks and the costs associated with
having their own team of technology professionals.

Final
destination(s).
Building a robust recovery
plan is all about establishing redundancies (for your
staff, technology, communications, etc). These
redundancies need to extend to recovery sites as well.
When considering a temporary office recovery site you
must think of the worst case scenario. Fact is, your
obvious first choice may not be available during a
large-scale event (think New Orleans post-Katrina, and
Manhattan following 9/11).
Take
some time to brainstorm multiple location options. Think
creatively about how isolated vs. local vs. regional
disasters may impact where and how you recover. For
example, do you have a good relationship with a vendor
in your supply chain? Maybe they can help you out in a
pinch. Do you have access to flexible office space like
the offerings that Agility provides? Can your employees
work remotely? If so, how long before inefficiency
creeps in?
The
bottom-line is - don't hinge your entire plan on a
single recovery site. Flexibility is key. |
