Community Arts Council of Vancouver

creates community through the arts.

Our mission: We are the voice for the community arts in Vancouver. We explore critical social issues through creative processes. CACV fosters and supports programs, practices and initiatives that develop common understanding through shared experiences.

From its founding in 1946 as the first community arts council in North America to today, CACV has been influential in the arts and culture scene in Vancouver. 2010 program priorities are to support community arts programming and infrastructure in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver; provide leadership in community arts in the City as a whole; and be a leader in the developing field of environmental art.

VOLUNTEER NEWS

Hello

We have a number of volunteer opportunities available varying from finding and cutting out images and text for collages to organizing an event from beginning to end.

First Steps:

If you're not yet part of our volunteer network, please sign up on our social network site. You can meet most of our current volunteers (and lots of artists and community organizers as well). It's free and you can even post your own events and comments.

We send out regular e-newsletters. Sign up by clicking that link.

(And forward to any friends who might be interested too).

Send a note with a resume or note about why you want to volunteer with us to volunteer@cacv.ca and I'll make sure it gets forwarded to the right committee chair or organizer.

Mary Bennett

PS - On a personal note, I have an exhibition of my mixed-media art with friend and painter/sculptor, Louise Bunn, at the Amelia Douglas Gallery at Douglas College in New Westminster.  Douglas College is just a block away from the Skytrain station in New Westminster.

Mayworks: Mail Art

Community Arts Council of Vancouver

Invites you to celebrate

May Day by creating a 5"x7" mail art to send before April 1 to Ed Varney for an exhibition on Vancouver Island.

Our volunteers (including you?) will be facilitating collage making during March.

You could help by:

  • collecting and cutting out images and text around the theme of "work", "labour" and "employment"
  • being at an event and helping people create their art
  • organizing materials and sending art
  • promoting this event and the whole idea of mail art on our social media and websites.
  • Respond to mary@cacv.ca and let me know how you'd like to be involved.

This project ends March 31 when we mail off the art, but we plan to do similar projects like this (such as what we did for World Community Arts Day in February).
