Greetings!
Environmental Arts is one of the top three program priorities for the Community Arts Council of Vancouver. We have a number of projects going on right now - and there's more details below.
CACV is helping to organize:
Eco-Dreaming Vancouver March 25 & 26, 2011 W2 Storyeum (151 West Codova)
Eco-Dreaming Vancouver will feature Mark Lakeman of Portland, Oregon's City Repair, an organization that has been engaging citizens to help reshape neighbourhood public spaces. City Repair processes are turning Portland into one of the U.S.'s greenest cities, and people are having lots of fun and getting to know each other better in the process. Eco-Dreaming Vancouver will introduce people here to how City Repair works. There will be a Friday evening lecture and full day of workshops on Saturday with collaborative games and hands-on neighbourhood visioning sessions. More info and event registration are at http://ecodreamingvancouver.eventbrite.com/. (If you can help by volunteering, contact derek@cacv.ca)
April 10 - Come to CRAB Park and Weave a New Canoe Saturdays - Participate in Eco-Art Salons related to the Green Streets Program. Contact ella@cacv.ca for details and to check times. 2011 Projects - We're planning a series of five short (1-2 day) community-engaged environmental art projects at five different locations with five different artists. Stay tuned for details. Or get involved from the startup - We'll be forming a volunteer team for this project to support the artists and CACV with everything from meeting facilitation, promotion to hands-on support at the projects.
Sincerely, Mary Bennett, Administrator, CACV mary@cacv.ca 604-682-0010
PS - On a personal note, I have a show of my mixed-media pieces at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver and am hosting an Artists Reception with Louise Bunn this Saturday, March 26 at 7pm. RSVP appreciated but not required. (see my website for some information about the show.) |

Weave the New CRAB Park Canoe!
 | | Click above to see more photos of the canoe that will be replaced. |
As a part of Arts and Culture week, join Community Arts Council of Vancouver and Sharon Kallis in weaving a new structure for the CRAB park pond. The old ivy boat is slowly sinking... it is time to work together and weave a new structure that can continue to act as a bird perch and protective shelter for ducks and ducklings. Working on a woven branch frame, community of all ages can assist weaving spirals of ivy to create a web-like structure for the centre of the pond. Meet under the CRAB Park Pavilion.

Eco-Art Salon Hits the Streets!
CACV's Eco Arts Salon is taking to the streets. Come and get involved in a hands-on project. Using an intersection in the Jericho Beach area of Kitsilano as a pilot, we are brainstorming ideas about how to put an environmental arts twist on Vancouver's Green Streets program.

Green Streets Eco Arts Project
Sat Apr 2 2- 4:30 pm (and every 2nd Sat - contact us to confirm)
Meet @ the Corner of Trimble & West 8th Street
(99 Bus - UBC. Get off at Sasamat )
Multidisciplinary artist and CACV volunteer Ella Cooper has recently gained four outdoor Green Street plots and would like to turn them into a veritable eco-arts gallery and space for community engagement. She has invited the Eco Arts Salon to be a part of the project and we need your help to come up with a plan for this exciting endeavour.

Mapping Arts for Social Change in Vancouver's Lower Mainland... We invite you to connect!
The International Centre of Art for Social Change (ICASC) is involved in an interesting and useful project - mapping local organizations and individuals who are engaged in different forms of arts-in-community/arts-for-social-change activities.
We aim to strengthen relationships, collaborations and provide services and information that respond to your concerns. This project involves:
- conducting a survey of local organizations and individuals engaged in arts-in-community/arts-for-social-change activities to help us and others to determine how best to serve the needs of our diverse and growing practice.
- creating a networking database of local organizations and individuals engaged in arts-in-community/arts-for-social-change activities that will be posted on the ICASC website
We hope to connect with organizations and individuals who: use art as a vehicle for social change use art practices to explore issues in and with specific communities work in partnership with artists
We would love to hear from you if you or your organization wish to:
- participate in our survey
- be included on the ICASC networking database
- be added to the ICASC email list
Please click here or contact us if you wish to participate in this survey and we will send it directly to you.

Community Arts Council of Vancouver
creates community through the arts.
Our mission: CACV is the voice for the community arts in Vancouver. We explore critical social issues through creative processes. CACV fosters and supports programs, practices and initiatives that develop common understanding through shared experiences.
From its founding in 1946 as the first community arts council in North America to today, CACV has been influential in the arts and culture scene in Vancouver. 2010 program priorities are to support community arts programming and infrastructure in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver; provide leadership in community arts in the City as a whole; and be a leader in the developing field of environmental art.
