Contact Voltage
A little over a year ago, a puppy was electrocuted and died in Providence when she walked over a manhole cover. The cause of the puppy's death was contact voltage (live electricity flowing from ordinary objects in public thoroughfares due to a fault in the underground power delivery system).
The Rhode Island SPCA is undertaking a campaign to raise public awareness of the cause of the Lab's death.
Legislation has been introduced in both the RI Senate and House to mandate that National Grid and other electric companies use the most up to date, modern technology to find and remedy faults in the existing electrical delivery system.
Please join us in helping to ensure the safety of pets and people alike on our city streets. Please write to your local state representatives voicing your support for this legislation. A sample letter for your use is available here.

Paws to Consider: An RISPCA Education Program for Current & Future Dog Owners
The Rhode Island SPCA will be presenting a new, free family education program designed to help current and future dog owners improve life with their dog and to reduce the rate of dogs surrendered to shelters due to avoidable or treatable issues. Learn how to select the right dog for your family, discover simple tools to aid in day-to-day life with your dog, find out what dog related services are available in your community and speak with professionals from the RISPCA!
This program will run on the last Sunday of every month throughout 2012 at the Rhode Island SPCA. The program will be offered in 2 parts: Part 1 will run from 1-1:45pm and will address selecting a dog. Part 2 will run 2-3pm and will discuss and present tools and resources to help with your dog. Please contact Laurelin at (401) 438-8150 or Laurelin@rispca.com for more information. |

Foster Parents Needed
With 'kitten season' fast approaching, the RISPCA is seeking individuals who are able to assist with caring for orphaned kittens and mother cats with litters of kittens.
 | | 3 day old kitten |
Newborn kittens need to be fed every 2-3 hours throughout the day and night, so they require a substantial time commitment.
Please contact Lisa L, Foster Care Coordinator, at lisal@rispca.com if interested.

Featured Adoptable Pet

Bing |
Bing is a 7-year-old Beagle mix. He was brought to the Rhode Island SPCA because his previous owner did not feel comfortable having Bing around her grandchildren.
Bing has always been a good dog, but he can be a little protective and nervous. Bing will do great in a quiet home without young children or other pets.
If you are interested in adopting Bing, please contact the RISPCA today - he will make an excellent companion! |
