August 2011

Greetings!

On July 4th, Indi was abandoned at the door of the Rhode Island SPCA.  He was emaciated and had severe wounds on his legs.  Indi received excellent emergency care at Bay State Veterinary Hospital and then spent several weeks in recovery under the care of Dr. Michael Bruzzi and his staff at Dighton-Rehoboth Animal Hospital.  Indi has continued to improve each day. He is currently in foster care with an RISPCA employee and began his physical therapy last week.  Indi still has a long road ahead of him, but we are hopeful that he will continue to grow stronger each day.  I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has followed Indi's journey towards recovery and for the cards, phone calls, emails, and generous donations.  I invite you to continue following Indi's progress on our website: www.rispca.com/indi.htm

Our 9th Annual Marvin Memorial Walk for the Animals is less than 4 weeks away!  Join us on Saturday, August 27th with your friends, family, and dogs for a fun day of raffles, games, prizes, and a beautiful walk through Goddard Park all while supporting the homeless animals at the Rhode Island SPCA.  We hope to see you there!

Yours very truly,

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI

Blue Cross of RI raises money for the RISPCABlue Cross and Blue Shield of RI

Associates at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island recently donated nearly $1,400 to the RI SPCA through their Coins for a Cause associate contribution program. All Blue Cross associates are invited to nominate local nonprofit organizations for consideration in the program and each month associates participate in an online vote to select two organizations to receive the contributions for the period.  Over 60% of Blue Cross associates participate in the Coins for a Cause program, which raises close to $20,000 annually for local nonprofit organizations.

Featured Adoptable PetGuiness
Guiness needs an active owner

Guinness is a four-year-old black lab mix.  His previous owners said he was a wonderful dog, but he would do better in a home without young children.  Guinness has a lot of  energy and loves to play fetch - he would make a great hiking partner.  He needs an active owner who can give him plenty of exercise and basic obedience training.  If you are interested in adopting Guinness, contact the Rhode Island SPCA at (401) 438-8150.

About the Rhode Island SPCA

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is governed by a Board of Directors.  The RISPCA is not affiliated with any national, state, or government agencies and relies on private donations, special events, and grants for operating expenses.  The Society was the first humane organization in Rhode Island and is the 3rd oldest humane organization in the United States.  At 140 years old, we are the only animal rescue organization in the state of Rhode Island that is empowered to investigate and prosecute cases of animal cruelty and neglect.
