Greetings!
Summer is just around the corner! While we here at the Rhode Island SPCA are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful summer weather, we won't lose sight of our goal of finding homes for our adoptable animal friends. The warm weather means it is also almost time for our annual dog walk fundraiser.
On Saturday, August 27, 2011, we will hold our 9th Annual Marvin Memorial Walk for the Animals at Goddard State Park in Warwick, Rhode Island. The walk is held in memory of our shelter mascot, Marvin the black lab, who helped raise $250,000 for the Rhode Island SPCA during his lifetime. In 2010, this community event was voted Best Pet Event by readers of The Animal Print Magazine, hosted over 300 people and their dogs from throughout the state, and raised $32,000 for the animals in our care. You won't want to miss it!
The money raised through this event goes directly toward helping our animals by providing food, shelter, veterinary care, and a chance for a new home.
We hope you get involved by collecting pledges for the Rhode Island SPCA and joining us with your friends, family, and dogs for an excellent day in the park! Get started today by registering on www.firstgiving.com/rispca or mailing a registration form to the RISPCA.
In this edition, you will also read about: National Adopt-a-Cat Month, the East Providence Fire Department's efforts to support the RISPCA, "happy tails," featured adoptable pets, and more!
As always, I thank you for your continued support in helping us "speak for those who cannot speak for themselves."
Yours very truly,
E.J. Finocchio, DVM President, Rhode Island SPCA

EPFD Raises Money for RISPCA
E.P.'s firefighters contribute for 3rd year in a row
For the third year in a row, members of the East Providence Fire Department got together to sponsor kennels at the Rhode Island SPCA. What started as a small campaign at Station 1 by Lt. Jay Dent has quickly become a department wide effort.
This year, the fire department's fundraiser to sponsor kennels at the RISPCA raised $1,300. These funds help cover the costs associated with caring for animals awaiting adoption at the shelter.
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to our friends at the East Providence Fire Department, for not only helping to keep us safe, but also for giving their time and a piece of their hard earned paychecks to help the animals at the RISPCA!

Featured Adoptable Pet Guinness needs an active owner
Guinness is a four-year-old black lab mix. His previous owners said he was a wonderful dog, but he would do better in a home without young children. Guinness has a lot of energy and loves to play fetch - he would make a great hiking partner. He needs an active owner who can give him plenty of exercise and basic obedience training. If you are interested in adopting Guinness, contact the Rhode Island SPCA today! |

May's "Happy Tail" Jake joins list of RISPCA alumni
Jake was brought to the Rhode Island SPCA after one of his owners passed away and the other moved to an assisted living facility. He was very friendly from the start, but had a hard time adjusting to life at the shelter after spending 14 years with his owners. Luckily, this fox terrier was adopted on May 12th after spending one month at the shelter.
