Rhode Island SPCA eNewsletterOctober 2010
Greetings!

October is the American Humane Association's Adopt-a-Dog Month.  We invite you to come to the RISPCA to see if your new best friend is waiting for you in one of our kennels!  Please check out our listing of adoptable dogs and share with family and friends!

Not the right time for you to adopt?  You can still help support the Rhode Island SPCA during Adopt-a-Dog Month by attending our All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast at Dave's Bar and Grille in Warwick on October 23rd!  The breakfast will be delicious and the animals will be very grateful for your contribution.  Tickets can be purchased by visiting the shelter, online via paypal, or by mail.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of our life-saving mission.

Sincerely,

Jim McGee

September's "Happy Tail"
 Taz, D.O.G.

Taz is a 1 year old Chihuahua mix.  He was brought to the RISPCA on July 17th with his "sister" Angel after their owners abruptly had to move.  Taz had been well loved and well cared for.  However, he had not been socialized and had never walked on a leash.  Taz was very scared at the shelter and after a month we were still unable to get him out of his kennel to vaccinate and evaluate him.  The staff was very worried that poor little Taz was unadoptable.  Luckily, we were eventually able to get Taz out of his kennel and into foster care with an SPCA staff member.  Taz warmed up quickly in his temporary home and went to his new forever home on October 1st.

Taz now spends his days with his new family, enjoying walks, hikes, trips to the beach, running around the dog park, and playing with his new feline friend Xena.

His owner's co-workers were so smitten with Taz that he was named the official mascot of the Teaching and Learning Lab at M.I.T.

About the Rhode Island SPCA
The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) is the 3rd oldest humane organization in the United States; at 140 years old we are the only non-profit animal rescue organization in the state of RI that is legally able to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty cases. Along with operating a full shelter that is home to over 100 cats, dogs and other domestic animals each day, we offer medical attention for the pets of many impoverished, disabled and elderly individuals who otherwise could not afford to care for them. The RISPCA also provides Humane Education programs for local schools, youth and adult groups free of charge. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that receives no local, state or federal funding, and is not associated with the ASPCA or its donations, the RISPCA relies solely on community support from friends and businesses.

Bailey is a 10 year old spayed female.  She came to the Rhode Island because her family recently had a baby who is severely allergic to cats.  She has been at the shelter since June and needs a loving home!  She is very quiet, sweet, and affectionate.  Bailey has lived with other cats and would make an excellent companion.
