Holiday Pet Bazaar Flyer
RISPCA eNewsletterMay 2010
Greetings!

Holiday Pet Bazaar FlyerOn May 2nd, we held our 8th Annual Horse Ride Fundraiser.  This year was our most successful ride with over 120 riders in attendance and over $8,000 raised to help the animals!  We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event such a success by attending, donating, and volunteering their time.  We would especially like to thank Russ and Ellen Flock  for their donation of the delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken lunches from their locations in North Kingstown, Cranston, and Warwick,  Rhode Island Horse Weighing for their donation to the RISPCA from the proceeds of their weighing service, and Denise Anthony and her family for all their hard work organizing and running this event.

We have some great fundraisers being held in our honor this month and are looking forward to our signature pet walk event in August!

Be sure to check out our newly designed website, if you haven't already done so, and let us know what you think!

As always, we thank you for your continued support.  We would not be able to give the animals awaiting adoption the quality care they deserve or continue our community involvement programs without the help of our supporters.

Sincerely,

Jim McGee

Marvelous Marvin Memorial Walk
Saturday, August 28, 2010
Holiday Pet Bazaar FlyerThis year, the RISPCA's Annual Howlin' Hounds Summer Walk will be held in memory of our shelter mascot, Marvin.  For those who don't know, Marvin was relinquished to the RISPCA twice before he was finally adopted by the Director of the RISPCA; Dr. E.J. Finocchio.  Throughout his lifetime, Marvin visited hundreds of nursing homes, schools and hospitals and was able to raise over $170,000 for the RISPCA through sales of his artwork and book telling his inspirational story.  Marvin was able to overcome disability and loneliness to bring joy to all who were lucky enough to meet him.  He was truly one of a kind and missed by many.  However, thanks to all of the wonderful friends he made during his lifetime, Marvin's mission will continue.  The Marvelous Marvin Memorial Walk is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Goddard State Park in Warwick, Rhode Island.

On Saturday, August 28th at Goddard State Park join the RISPCA to celebrate Marvin's life and raise funds to benefit the homeless animals in our care! The RISPCA's annual walk attracts animal lovers from throughout the state. Last year, we had over 300 participants and 200 dogs in attendance. Dogs are welcome to attend, however, you can still have a great time at the RISPCA walk without a canine companion! There will be plenty of fun activities for pet lovers of all ages including prizes, contests, raffles, games and much more!

About the Rhode Island SPCA
The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) is the 3rd oldest humane organization in the United States; at 140 years old we are the only non-profit animal rescue organization in the state of RI that is legally able to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty cases. Along with operating a full shelter that is home to over 100 cats, dogs and other domestic animals each day, we offer medical attention for the pets of many impoverished, disabled and elderly individuals who otherwise could not afford to care for them. The RISPCA also provides Humane Education programs for local schools, youth and adult groups free of charge. As a 501©(3) non-profit organization that receives no local, state or federal funding, and is not associated with the ASPCA or its donations, the RISPCA relies solely on community support from friends and businesses.

Diesel
Diesel is a 2 year old neutered male American Bull Dog. He came to the RISCPA because his owner was moving and could not keep him. Diesel is a big, playful boy who doesn't seem to have been very well socialized as a puppy. He needs a home with experience handling large dogs and the time to give him lots and lots of exercise. Diesel will do best in a home with adults only. Diesel will make an excellent dog for someone who has the time to give him the training and attention he needs.
