Kelly Ellenwood Receives Advocacy Award
On Saturday, March 24, 2012, Kelly Ellenwood will receive the Howland Public Library Helen Savoit Library Advocacy Award at a reception in her honor at the Southern Dutchess Country Club.
This award was created in honor of Helen Savoit, who was a teacher in the Beacon City School District for over 25 years. A Town of Fishkill resident, Helen Savoit served on the Board of Trustees of the Howland Public Library from 1984 - 1995, and on the Mid-Hudson Library System Board of Trustees from 1988 - 1997. As MHLS President, Mrs. Savoit represented all public libraries in five counties in the Mid-Hudson region. Helen Savoit, a life-long library user, volunteered in Beacon Reads, the bookstore to benefit HPL, located at 309 Main Street. She also ran a popular library book club for many years that remains "The Helen Savoit Book Club". Helen Savoit's death on May 25, 2008 was a personal loss to the Howland Public Library and a great loss to all libraries. Her family requested that donations in Helen's memory be sent to the Howland Public Library; these donations established this award in her name. Join the Howland Public Library in honoring library advocate Kelly Ellenwood on March 24th from 5 - 7 PM. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres & Champagne, a cash bar, music by jazz duo T'N'T and more. Tickets are $35 per person, proceeds to benefit the Howland Public Library Helen Savoit Fund. For more information or to reserve your ticket, contact the Howland Public Library at business@beaconlibrary.org or call 831-1134 x 116. |
