Stop the Clean Air Rollback
We Need You in Trenton on March 15th!
The League of Women Voters of New Jersey has been hard at work lobbying in support of an important bill (A1998/S1322) that reduces pollution, makes polluters pay, and uses the funds for clean energy.
This bill will keep New Jersey in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), one of our strongest anti-pollution laws. RGGI is a 10-state program designed to cap global warming pollution from power plants, make polluters pay, and invest those payments in clean energy programs that further reduce pollution and grow the economy.
We need you in Trenton to stand up for clean air!
On Thursday, March 15th the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, along with our coalition partners, will be participating in a Lobby Day in support of RGGI. We need as many of our members as possible to come to Trenton to show our grassroots support. We will meet at the State House at 10 am.
RGGI works: RGGI has cut global warming pollution and other toxic emissions across the Northeastern states. Here in New Jersey, the program has put us on track to cut 84,000 tons of global warming pollution each year.
RGGI provides social, economic and environmental benefits to our state: In the ten participating states, quarterly auctions of CO2 credits have raised $952 million dollars since 2009. 80% of that revenue has funded programs that encourage energy efficiency and provide assistance for low income households. Read the League's testimony in support of S1322. New Jersey needs RGGI and we need you to come show your support in Trenton to help save it! If you plan on attending, please let us know in an email to jburns@lwvnj.org.
In the meantime, please take a minute to sign this petition showing your support for RGGI.
There will be buses to Trenton leaving from Red Bank, Ridgewood, and Westfield. If you are interested in a seat on a bus, please email jburns@lwvnj.org and information will be provided.
