Top Ten Spring Home Maintenance Tasks
|
- Inspect your deck, check for decay and clean/repair and paint as needed
- Have your air conditioning system serviced and air filter(s) replaced
- Clean gutters of debris to prevent foundation damage
- Change out the batteries in your smoke detector and clean covers of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
- Clean, caulk and seal your windows
- Check your homes' siding, fascia and trim for exterior wood rot
- Inspect for weak trees and limbs close to your home
- Inspect your roof for leaks, inspect shingles and around eaves and flashing
- Check foundation for cracking and pests
- Inspect and maintain/drain your hot water heater

Just a quick reminder that it's time to take advantage of UP TO $1,500 IN ENERGY TAX CREDITS on high efficiency home improvements including:
- Windows
- Doors
- Roofs
- Insulation
- High Efficiency HVAC Systems
- Other Energy Star Products

Additional Quick & Low-Cost Energy Saving Ideas |
We all can make simple changes that can make a difference in our energy/water usage. Some simple ideas include:
- Replace all incandescent bulbs with CFL's or LED's
- Clean the coils in your refrigerators and freezers twice a year
- Turn off the TV when you're not watching it
- Install water-saving low flow showerheads/faucets/toilets
- Replace weather stripping on older doors and windows and caulk any cracks around windows, doors, siding, etc.
- Wrap your water heater and/or boiler with an insulation blanket
- Install programmable thermostats with winter settings no greater than 68 degrees and summer settings no less than 74 degrees
- Replace filters twice annually in your heating and air conditioning systems (unless specified by manufacturer)
