Annual Flapjack Fundraiser

for the 2012 Homeless Veteran Stand Down and Community Fair

  

The New Hanover County Veterans Council and the Veteran's Stand Down Committee will host their annual flapjack fundraiser to raise money for the 2012 Veteran's Stand Down.

Date:Saturday, February 11, 2012

Time: 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Location: Applebee's at 5120 New Center Drive

Tickets on sale for $7.00

2011 Holiday Giving Results

 

The Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross extends its gratitude to the hundreds of Cape Fear residents that participated in our Holiday Donor Challenge.You helped us to meet and greatly exceed our goal of $20,000 which was matched twice by two generous donors.

 

The total raised during our 2011 Holiday Giving Campaign was $100,644.83!! This means Cape Fear residents donated $60,644.83 and our matching donors each contibuted $20,000 to the Red Cross. Your generous contributions enable us to continue our tradition of neighbor helping neighbor.

Red Cross 2nd in Fittest Execs!

Cape Fear Red Cross staff members participated in the 2011-2012 Fittest Execs Challenge hosted by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.  The event ran from October to January during which time, the teams were challenged to improve their health and fitness.

With the help of personal trainers Kevin Demarco of DeMarco Studios and Crystal Gentry of Urban Studios, the Red Cross came in second overall for most improved team.  Congratulations Red Cross team, keep up the good work!

Feb 15- Disaster Action Team Workshop (DAT) (6-8p)

 Volunteers interested in responding to home fires and other disasters.

Feb 18- Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance (8:30a-4:30p)

Learn about the various forms and procedures when working directly with clients.

Feb 25- Fundamentals of Disaster Public Affairs- Local Response and ERV: Ready, Set, Roll (8:30a-5p)

Learn how to respond to the public and media during disasters. Get certified to drive the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV). 

Feb 26- Frontline Supervisor and Disaster Simulation (8:30a- 5p)

Practice supervisory knowledge and skills to deliver high quality service and to create a climate that promotes worker satisfaction.

Mar 10 - Disaster Services Overview, Shelter Operations and Disaster Assessment Basics (8:30a-5p)

Overview of the Red Cross programs and services. Required for new volunteers. Learns how to manage a disaster shelter and basics of disaster assessment.

FREE CPR, First Aid and Babysitter Training

 

The Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross in partnership with the Eshelman Foundation is excited to announce free emergency preparedness training. The courses are designed to teach participants how to handle emergencies like injuries, illnesses and household accidents and empower them to gain the confidence to make smart decisions and stay safe.
