So you've been to a bout and immediately dusted off your old quad skates, dreaming of playing derby? Or do you look great in stripes and want to make the calls? Maybe you want to be part of our crew but prefer to avoid the blisters skating brings. FoCo Girls Gone Derby has a place for you! Find out how to become a derby player, referee or non-skating official at our recruitment meeting 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Rollerland.

Yowza! FoCo trading cards, complete with pin-up photos by Jason Buck and stats from the 2010 season, are on sale now and can be purchased at Saturday's bout. Find out what the skaters look like without helmet hair! Buy a set of your favorite home team, a collection of referees and NSOs, or a mix-and-match pack of 10 cards for $6 a set.

Reigniting
the Rivalry

FoCo Girls Gone Derby's home teams, the Deathrow Dolls and Chanel Cartel, have added some new skaters to their ranks and will face off Saturday, Aug. 13, at Rollerland. Doors open at 7pm, bout begins at 7:30.

These ladies are your friends, your neighbors and your co-workers who happen to lace up old-school roller skates and knock each other down for fun. This is an authentic athletic competition, and there will be a winner. Will it be the inmates on skates in their orange jumpsuits or the gold hot pants-wearing Chanel Cartel that triumphs in the battle over home turf? Come to the bout to find out!

Tickets are $10 presale and $15 at the door. Students and members of the military receive a reduced rate of $10 with valid ID. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased through the Rollerland Skate Center ticket booth or from any FoCo skater.

The winner rocks on

Battle of Bands handbill Congratulations to DB and the Catastrophe for taking the title at FoCo's Battle of the Bands on Aug. 6! They will perform at halftime during Saturday's bout and will receive recording time at Studio 71 and a photo shoot with Schonfeld Photography. Bravo Swashbuckling Doctors, who came in second place and finalist The Rods. Other contenders were That's Science!, Blind Strike and Johnny and the Nukes.

FoCo would like to thank all the bands for participating, as well as the judges from Novus Folium, who played a headlining set for the Battle. Thanks also goes out to Eloy's for hosting and Evil I for MCing the event. Skaters C'est La Vixen, Slim Skatey and Rox Yorr Soxov and her husband Jokorr made this fundraiser possible, and the entire league is in their debt.
