Happy Columbus Day Weekend!
All of us at Mt Abram are so excited about the upcoming season, our 2nd as owners, and the Resort's 49th. In communication with our Meteorologist, Russ Murley, yesterday, he reports that while he is "still tweaking his official winter forecast" he is calling for "cold and snowier than normal". The cold is no problem for the outdoorsy soles, as we all know there is no such thing as bad weather in Maine, just bad clothing. The snow - well that's great news.
We have a fantastic weekend planned at the Resort and hope to see many friends out enjoying the great Mountain air and taking in the magnificent scenery. If you are additionally in the mood for some physical labor before settling down to enjoy Saturday's Pre-season Bash, we've got just the activity as well.
Saturday's "Trim Fest II" is the 2nd edition of a skier led initiative to trim and clear brush in the backcountry areas, ever expanding what is now widely regarded as some of the best glade and backcountry skiing in Maine. All hearty volunteers please plan to arrive by 8:30am for orientation and to split into work teams. Whatever compliment of tools you have you are encourage to bring. At 9:00, teams hike to designated "trim areas" with the goal to make vertical progress through the gladed area, creating a top to bottom corridor. Widening is done as time permits or as the years go by. . . By 1:30 we will venture back down the Mt to celebrate an afternoon and evening of fun.
Gritty's will again be sponsoring the brew festivities and drink specials. Pumpkin carving contests starting 2pm running until 4pm, the Sportshaus' pre-season gear sale and season lease programs will start at noon to 5pm, Music from Tom Kennedy will be from 4:00 - 6:00 and the 2nd Annual Chili/Chowder Cook-off gets under way at 5:00 and will provide an incredibly flavorful potluck to all guests. Bring something to share and if it's really good register it. College football will be playing on the big screens throughout the day and A bonfire finishes off the night. Giveaways and prizes will be awarded throughout the day and Ticket coupon books, Season Passes specials, as well as locker sales, which are in short supply so sign up this weekend or you may be carrying your sticks in and out all season, are also on sale. Stop over and check out our new playground at the Westside Lodge, it's awesome.
And the fun won't end on Saturday. Sunday, the Lodge will be home for many of the Mt Abram Homeowner Association meetings as well as the Mt Abram Ski Club throughout the morning and the Lounge will open at 1:00 for an afternoon of NFL with the Pats wrestling down the soon to be "defeated" Broncos at 4:00. This is a bring your best appetizer afternoon, "Pot-luck Apps".
The next Mt Abram Season Pass deadline is Thursday, October 15th. The Military pass, College pass and the Mt Abram Holiday Hopper are all new offerings that will get you on the slopes during all of this winters holiday's and peak vacation time frames for as little as $24 a day. And our Family Pass remains the best deal in ski country.
As much fun and as much progress as we made in year one, we are ever committed to making Year Two the Greatest on record. And for those of you who have never turned off Rte 26 in Greenwood just south of Bethel Village and Turned on the Magic, a non-factory, non-goliath, it's about the skiing and the friendships, resort experience is waiting for you, free of admission.
