Teacher Quote of the Month...

"I have begun using your ESGI program in my kindergarten classroom this school year.  I have heard such great feedback from parents and I love using your program!  It is easy to use and has become an essential element in assessing my kinders.  My students enjoy coming over to my laptop for me to assess them instead of me sitting with paper and pencil.  Many thanks to you and your program!"

Monthly Tip:

How do I get all of my tests on one parent letter?

The answer is: "You can create your own subject tab, and add all of the tests you want to appear together on the parent letter (and other reports)!  The "tabs", or "subject tabs" are used to organize and group tests together for reporting purposes.  Since tests can appear in more than one tab, you can create your own tab, choose your tests, and use that tab to print a parent letter with the tests you have chosen.  For more information, including the steps to create a subject tab, and a video demonstration of this process, please visit our help page on Adding a Subject Tab.

Animal Addition

Make learning to add fun! It's as simple as a trip to your local grocery store. Kids love to eat when food is presented on these kid friendly animal plates and they will love to practice adding, just the same!

Animal Plates

Use your choice of manipulatives (goldfish, counters, etc.) and introduce the concept of adding using animal plates. Count the addends in to the "ears" or "feet" and then add them together by counting them in to the "mouth" of the animal. Have some more fun with these animal plates by practicing subtraction, too!

"By the way, I love ESGI!"

Be it a chef, an architect, a painter or a founder of an educational software business - a main reason we are in existence is to hear someone else tell you they like your work.

At ESGI we receive emails and comments daily.  The words "I Love ESGI" continue to inspire us, as truly we know we are doing all of this for the right reason - to make the lives of teachers easier.

Some comments are from veteran users who have just finished another assessment period using ESGI, and other times it is a teacher who just discovered ESGI, signed up for the trial, and gave it a spin.

Thank you all for your wonderful words of encouragement!  Below we have showcased some of our recent favorites:

Calling All Teachers

We don't want any teacher deprived of the ability to use ESGI. We continue to gain new users every day thanks to the efforts of our current user base referring our program.  If you know any teachers that may be interested please forward them our web link and have them watch the video and try the Free Trial.  At ESGI we are NOT a big company, rather a group of teachers and administrators trying to make a difference. Anything you can do to help out is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

The ESGI Team

The Future of Education in America
By Amish Shah, co-founder of ESGI

Education is the pillar of American Society.  It has been our country's ability to educate all that has kept America in the forefront of the world economy.  So what is happening in government that there is a question of the priority on education?

Last week I was able to visit with congressmen and senators in DC to discuss the future of education and the problems that we are faced with today.  Teachers are concerned with larger class sizes, fewer resources, shrinking budgets less parent involvement, or simply keeping their job.  Government intervenes with programs such as No Child Left Behind further perpetuating angst amongst teachers; states push down assessments and force certain levels for proficiency and schools are stuck in the middle trying to make everyone happy. In the mean time state and local budgets are decreased due to deficits and in the end teachers are left with trying to make the best with what they have. Federal Government seems to push down education to the states and manage at arms length.

The facts: The United States ranks 19th in student scientific literacy, #24 in mathematical ability, #12 in reading ability, and #26, in the world, in problem-solving ability. There are no teachers in the US Congress or Senate.

The US has great teachers and a viable sense of entrepreneurism; much greater than other countries worldwide.  At ESGI, we aren't political activists or complainers - rather we are evaluating the problems at hand and trying to develop solutions so you can be more effective. What happens in DC or in state or local government isn't our focus. What we can do is make your life easier.  Automating the assessment process, bringing you charts and graphs, automated parent letters, flash cards, and saving you time in admin work so you have more time to teach/plan...This is what we can control and what we are doing in efforts to turn around some of the problems in education.

What is the future of Education in America?  As educators and Americans, it is in our hands. We can either influence the decision makers so there is policy and legislation or innovate in our space through new applications and services.

"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."
-- Henry Brooks Adams
