This month, I'm honored to interview Kimberly Floyd, a wonderful woman of God, a registered nurse, and, like me, an author with a heart for those who struggle with emotional eating issues. Once 240 pounds and a size 22, Kim can testify of God's goodness and healing power to overcome. Kim lost 85 pounds six years ago and is now a certified wellness coach. She is the author of the ebook Take Back Your Temple: How to Achieve Healthy Weight Loss God's Way and the book Moneywise Weight Loss.  Kim has been featured in Prevention, Essence, and Charisma magazines and on CBN's The 700 Club.
I so appreciate that Kim values serving God above the business aspect of book-selling. She has agreed to help us out in the Eden Diet group by sharing her insights and has offered to interview me so I can share my insights with her readers. As it says in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!"

Dr. Rita: Kim, thank you so much for joining us. I know you're going to be a blessing to my readers. As I read your weight loss testimony, I see similarities in our stories, except it appears that you started dieting earlier than I did. Can you tell us about your struggle with body image in your early teenage years and
kim floydtell us how you overcame those issues?
Kim: Like many young women, I used images in fashion magazines and movies to tell me whether my body was an acceptable size or not. I saw these women who are largely tall and thin and thought something was wrong because I am short and curvy. So, because I couldn't do anything about my height, I went to work on "fixing" my size. I went on my first diet at the age of 12. Even though I was not overweight at all then, constant dieting soon made me so! I stayed on that rollercoaster of weight loss and gain for the next 25 years. To get off of it, I had to believe that I am "fearfully and wonderfully" made and start caring for my body out of love rather than a desire to "fix" myself.
Dr. Rita: Isn't it funny that this way of thinking is the opposite of how the world approaches weight loss? The world's approach seems to be about condemnation - "My hips are too big or I hate my body so I should go on a diet to feel better about myself." I like that you are saying that change has to begin from a place of love.

Kim: That's right. In Romans 2:4, the Bible says that it is the goodness of God that leads you to repentance. Repentance is a change of heart and mind. Change must begin with praising God for the body you have - before you have even lost a pound. You are grateful for eyes that can see, ears that can hear, legs that can move. So many people do not have that blessing. And yet, we all tend to focus on minor things rather than the fact that God made each of us unique and special.
So you have to learn to love your body exactly as it is at this moment, even as you create habits to take better care of it. Here is a fact most people don't know. According to a Wired Magazine article, if you were somehow able to take all the parts of your body and sell them off - heart, kidneys, lungs, DNA, bone marrow, reproductive cells (eggs and sperm) - you would have a value of approximately $45 million dollars!
The sad thing is, most of us don't recognize how valuable we really are in body. And we are worth even more in Spirit. After all, we were bought with the priceless and precious blood of Jesus!
Dr. Rita:  Amen to that! Kim, I love how you base your thinking on the Bible and use Scripture so effectively as a weapon against emotional eating. On that note, what are your favorite Scriptures to combat fear, low self-esteem, anger, anxiety, and depression? Can you give us one example for each?

Kim: I'll be happy to. Jesus combated the enemy with scripture and he is our role model.
Fear: 'Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' (Isaiah 41:10)
Low self-esteem: 'I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.' (Psalm 139:14)
Anger:  Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:31-32)
Anxiety:  'You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. '(Isaiah 26:3)
Depression:  Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God;  For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.
(Psalm 43:5)
Dr. Rita: Please tell Eden Dieters about your 'SANE' approach to eating. What do the letters in that acronym stand for?
Kim: The 'S' stands for Start when you are hungry means that you pay attention to your body's hunger signals, eating only when your body says that you are hungry. 'A' is for Appreciate every bite encourages you to eat slowly and enjoy your food. 'N' means No food is forbidden, so you don't forbid yourself to have any food, although you may choose to limit some foods by personal choice. Finally 'E' stands for End when signaled, which is a reminder to stop eating when your body is satisfied, not full. This also helps you avoid overeating.
Dr. Rita: Is there anything else that you'd like to say to encourage us to persevere toward better health in mind, body, and Spirit?
Kim: Matthew 19:26 assures us that 'with God all things are possible.' The enemy might try to tell you that your situation is hopeless and you'll always be trapped, but that is a lie. Get into God's word and read his promises on health and healing. He wants you to live an abundant life, so begin to anchor yourself in Him. Ask for Help and wisdom to handle this issue and he will provide it.
Dr. Rita: Kim, thank you so much for the time and energy that you devoted to visit with us today. I pray that God blesses your ministry so that, together, we can reach more people for Christ.
Kim: I appreciate you for inviting me, Dr. Rita. I pray that you and your readers may prosper and be in health as your souls prosper.
