Jacksonville Humane Society News & Mews Volume X, 2009
Greetings!
Adelina

Home for the Holidays!  Our wish this holiday season is that each and every one of our special furry faces spends the holidays at home with family and friends.

Whether you're fanatic for felines or crazy for canines, we have many wonderful four-legged friends who would love to be a part of your holiday celebrations for years to come.

This month, we have lowered our adoption fees to only $25 for select pets.   Full of personality and so much love to give, our one-of-a-kind pets for one-of-kind-homes are sure to be a perfect match!

Come visit us today, and take a JHS pet home for the holidays!

On behalf of everyone at our organization, we thank you for your continued care and support.

Happy holidays!

Sincerely,

Leona P. Sheddan

Dog Manners and Tiny Tots Classes

We know many of our four-legged friends will celebrate the holidays in their new homes.  While your feline may easily adjust to his new surroundings, your canine may need some coaxing!  At JHS, we offer a Dog Manners Class for adult dogs ( 4 1/2 months old and up) and Tiny Tots class for puppies (10-18 weeks old).

For a full schedule of classes and detailed instructions on how to register for our 2010 classes, visit us
online or call 904.725.8766, ext. 227.

  • Dog Manners Class starts Jan. 4, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m
  • Our first Tiny Tots Class is Jan. 5, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Three important reasons to participate in a puppy class:

  1. Teaching bite inhibition, or soft mouth.  Therefore, we have puppy play sessions and dog-to-dog socialization.
  2. Teaching puppies to enjoy interacting with and being handled by people, children and strangers.  Therefore, we have people-to-dog socialization.
  3. To have reliable off leash obedience, so that the puppies will respond to verbal commands promptly and willingly.  Therefore, we have training sessions integrated into play sessions.

If you have questions regarding behavioral issues with your family pet, please feel free to call the behavior hotline using the number listed above or E-mail behavior@jaxhumane.org.

Dakota loves his blankie!

Dakota arrived at JHS on June 8 as an owner surrender.  A very sweet boy, he is permanently blind due to a congenital defect.  After spending just one week at our facility, Dakota went home.  He is thriving and loving his new family!

"Dakota is doing well. He keeps getting spunkier every day! We love him very much, and he seems very happy (he wants to play multiple times a day). He's finding his way around our house just fine, and he barks when he can't figure out where we are.   He's already gained some weight, now weighing 6lbs 7oz!"

 Lilly in her forever home!

Transferred from Animal Care & Protective Services on Jan. 26, Lilly went home to a new family on Jan. 29.  Sadly, the owner had to return this cutie due to his allergies.  But, Lilly finally found her forever home when she was adopted by Ryann on Nov. 7.  Lilly is home for the holidays!

"We are so happy with our new pet Lilly and we think she's happy too!  Thank you JHS!"

Thank you Jane for your continued support of JHS and all the furry faces in our care!  We really appreciate all of your hard work and dedication.

About Jane
Jane Canady is a true Floridian.  She was born and raised in Jacksonville and graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Clothing, Textiles and Merchandising. After graduation, she accepted an assistant buying position with Stein Mart here in Jacksonville.  Jane moved on to manage and buy for a local upscale women's boutique. Jane quickly saw the need for great clothes and new trends and wanted to bring a new sense of fashion to Jacksonville, so she decided to open Clover in 2007, located in the historic Shoppes of Avondale. Besides working in her boutique, Jane is also a board member for the Avondale Merchants Association.  She is currently a board member for the newly launched young professionals group for JHS as the education/volunteer chair.
