Jacksonville Humane Society News & Mews Volume VIII, 2009
Greetings!
Adelina

We love our felines as well as our canines at JHS, but the month of October is national Adopt-a-Dog Month.  I couldn't imagine my days without my clan, so if you've been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, this is the perfect time.  With the fall in full swing, the weather practically invites us to enjoy the outdoors.  Playing in the park and leisurely walks are perfect ways to bond with your canine companions and sneak in some fun exercise too!

We have so many wonderful personalities, all waiting to find their forever homes.  We have a variety of ages and breeds sure to fit any lifestyle - our four-legged friends are truly one-of-a-kind pets for one-of-a-kind homes.

At JHS, we are crazy for cats too so we are celebrating all of our furry friends this month with discounted adoption fees.  So, come visit us today to find your perfect match! On behalf of all the animals in our care, we thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Leona P. Sheddan
Executive Director

Foster Program

Want to be a foster parent?

We always need foster parents to share their homes with the furry faces at JHS that need a little extra TLC. The process is easy, and our program is designed to support our foster parents every step of the way!

We've listed a few of the most common questions.  You can find out more by checking our website's monthly topic!

Q: Why does JHS need foster families?
A: We need extra hands to help care for underage kittens and puppies and rehabilitate sick, injured, orphaned or unsocialized animals in a home environment until they are ready for adoption.

Q: What is my financial commitment?
A: Nothing.  We provide you with medication, veterinary care and pet supplies (food, collars etc.).

Q: Who can become a foster parent?
A: You must be 18 years of age or older to be a foster parent.  However, if you are a student (16 years of age or older) in need of community service hours to fulfill a school requirement, you can become a foster parent with the signature of your legal guardian.

Q: How do I become a foster parent?
A: Once you have completed our
online application, you will meet with our foster/rescue manager, Angela Juarez, for the required orientation.  You can either make an appointment or walk-in to the adoption center when it is convenient for you.

Q: How do I reach Angela Juarez, foster/rescue manager?
A: You can call her at 904.725.8766 ext. 221 or you can email her at ajuarez@jaxhumane.org.

Molly and her forever mom and dad!

"Hello!  My husband and I adopted Molly, when her name was Athena at JHS, and we just wanted to show how much of a joy she is to have in our lives. She's become part of our family and we couldn't be happier. We just wanted to say thank you. From the bottom of our hearts."

shelly

 Shelly is a true beachcomber!

"Hi, my name is Janel.  I'm writing to update you on the cutie named "Shelly" that my boyfriend and I recently adopted from you.  Shelly seems to be doing great here in our home.  She is very playful though she does like to chew on our hands and such (We're working on that with her!). She enjoys walks around the neighborhood, runs on the beach and in the ocean, our trips to the dog park (where she rules the big dog yard!) and even loves car rides in general.  I'm sending a few pictures, wishing I could include a bunch of them, but we always rave to others that we adopted Shelly from the Humane Society."
