Greetings!

Let's celebrate our furry members of the family this Valentine's Day! We all know how much joy they bring to our lives. What better Valentine than your pet who offers nothing but unconditional love. Right now, we are offering a Sweetheart Special for select furry friends who want to find their forever homes. In this newsletter, we've highlighted two of our Sweetheart Specials, Ringo and Keagan. Give your sweetheart a sweetheart this Valentine's Day! Come visit us at the Jacksonville Humane Society and meet these very adorable animals. If you choose one of our selected pets, the adoption fee will be at a discounted rate of $25.00 which also includes some wonderful items to take home with them, to make Valentine's Day even more special. Remember, all of our animals are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated. All they are waiting for is that special person to recognize their unique qualities so they can become part of a family! From all of us at JHS, we wish you a Happy Valentine's Day!
Sincerely, Leona P. Sheddan Executive Director

| Christmas at Camp BowWow
Winter Wonderland of Generosity
During the Holiday season, Camp BowWow's lobby turned into a winter wonderland of generosity. More than 30 clients generously donated to the Jacksonville Humane Society's Wish List, providing much needed supplies and treats for the JHS animals. The lobby tree became a 'giving tree' as donors placed their dog's names on specially made holiday ornaments. "We were so overwhelmed with the generosity of our clients,' said Melissa Taketa, Camp Ranger. "Many of them made special trips to the store to carefully select the requested treats and toys. Two of our customers managed extra donations from pet stores in town. "
Camp BowWow Premier Doggy Day Camps provide a fun, safe and upscale environment for dogs to play, romp, and receive lots of love and attention! For more information, visit www.campbowwow.com

Sign Depot
A special volunteer tells her story
"When the fire happened at JHS, I was so deeply touched and horrified that I immediately went and made a donation. It was all I could do at the time. I made a promise to myself that I would get involved at some point when it was feasible.
Since last summer, I've walked dogs on Monday mornings and I'm a new ambassador. I volunteered for Toast to the Animals last fall which was a lot of fun, and we formed a corporate team for Trails of Tails. In Decemeber of 2008, we ran a JHS Holiday Charitable Drive at Sign Deport, collecting cash and items from the Wish List. I hope to make it an annual event!
Whenever someone asks me if I have time to volunteer or how I do it I
recall how I felt that day of the fire as an outsider looking in. I truly believe those furry babies who perished in the fire made the ultimate sacrifice for thousands of animals to come and give back to our community in so many ways."

Natalie is an incredibly valuable volunteer who has donated a great deal of time and company resources all to benefit the JHS. We are grateful for her generosity.

A Special Thank You
Volunteers
We are so grateful for all of our volunteers. They are invaluable to our organization and the happiness of our furry friends.
We would like to extend a very special thanks to the Terry Parker Baptist Church craft group. These women have provided so many of our babies - puppies and kittens - with crocheted blankets to ensure a warm and comfortable homecoming. And, thanks to Rose Marie Flores for the beautiful designs! I know our new parents enjoyed receiving these hand-crafted blankets!

Rebecca Hewitt Local celebrity partners with JHS

Rebecca Hewitt Visits JHS
Just 10 years old, Rebecca Hewitt is on her way to becoming a nationally recognized country music singer and song writer. She has performed all over Jacksonville and has competed in a state country singing contest where she won four awards including, "New Country Most Promising Vocalist of the Year". In March, Rebecca will go to Nashville where she will compete in the national competition and record demo material with a Grammy award-winning producer and song writer.
Fortunately for us, Rebecca's love for animals has inspired her to partner with the Jacksonville Humane Society. "We've learned a lot about the Jacksonville Humane Society and are looking forward to adding elements to Rebecca's events and appearances that will benefit the organization," said Rebecca's mom, Maryanne Hewitt.
Rebecca plans to raise funds for JHS animals at upcoming events.
The family is organizing a kick-off party/concert on Friday, February 20th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fast Boys Pierside in Jacksonville Beach. The concert is open to the public.

Jeff and Sugar, Florida State Frisbee Champ
"I adopted a Staffordshire Bull Terrier from your shelter back in 2001, originally named Joy, but renamed Sugar. I am proud to say she is doing AWESOME, at the ripe ole age of seven. She even placed 3rd in a "throw-and-catch" event at the Annual Florida State Frisbee Dog Championships here in Jacksonville last year, after being in the competition for the past five years in a row. You all do great things for animals, and enable good people to feed off of that! Keep up the good work and God bless!"

JHS Thrift Store Add to your winter wardrobe with Thrift Store bargains
On January 2nd, Nikki Preede from Channel 4 visited our Thrift Store to showcase some of the fantastic bargains available to our customers. Peggy Johnson, owner of Petunia Patch and longtime wardrobe consultant joined us as well.
With the help of our Thrift Store staff, Peggy was able to find such treasures from Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap and Banana Republic to create some great outfits at bargain prices. "We were grateful for the opportunity to highlight some of the items in our store," said Thrift Store manager Mike Harnice. "The story resulted in increased sales and increased foot traffic, and I hope people will continue to shop and donate in the future."

Sweetheart Specials! |

Ringo is a 6 year old Tabby and has been at JHS since August 2008. Ringo is a really cool cat who is looking for a very special family! Ringo is what you would call a "Personal Assistant". If you are reading the paper, he'll hold the pages down for you. Watching TV? He'll just plop in your lap so you can pet him. He loves an orderly household and will help you with all of your chores. When everything else is done, he'll be ready to hang out and relax. You'll wonder how you ever managed without him! Ringo is front declawed and would need to be an inside cat. Ringo can be adopted for only $25. We will also offer a free cardboard cat carrier, 40lb bag of litter and a toy.

Meet Keagan!
Keagan is a 2 year old Chocolate Lab mix and has been at JHS since December 2008. Keagan is a "Go Getter"! He has a lot of energy and would enjoy a companion that has an active lifestyle. He loves to run, play catch and tug of war and loves to play with other dogs. He might be a little too active for small children. He knows some basic commands and will sit for treats. Keagan is a total package...good looking, fun and loving! All that's missing is you! Keagan can be adopted for only $25. We will also offer $10 off the required purchase of heartworm prevention, a bag of treats and a toy.
Discounts available through February!
