Special Thanks

The Denver Foundation Logo

WINGS would like to issue a special thank you to The Denver Foundation for their recent grant.  We appreciate their continued support and belief in our program.  Without funders such as The Denver Foundation we would not be able to serve as many survivors as we do.  Check out The Denver Foundation's great work in our community here.

New Denver Men's Support Group Starting

WINGS is starting a new Denver support group just for male survivors.  The group will meet in the central Denver area near 10th & Sherman on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30pm and will be facilitated by an experienced psychotherapist.  Please contact WINGS at 303-238-8660 if you are interested in attending.

Potential

Legislative
 Testimony Opportunity for Survivors

The Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CCASA) is supporting a bill to reauthorize the Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) and effectively manage sex offeders.  CCASA is seeking survivors who are willing to testify before the Colorado legislature in support of this bill.  They are particularly in need of survivors whose victimization included perpetrators with multiple victims and offenses.

If you are interested in finding out more about this, please contact Karen Moldovan of CCASA at 303-839-9999 or advocacy@ccasa.org

Greetings!

Happy 2011!  We wish each of you a year of promise and new beginnings.  Check out what we've got planned to warm your soul and excite your mind.  If you've got an idea or thought for the new year please contact us!

FREE Upcoming Workshops!

If you are a current or former WINGS support group member you can take advantage of two FREE workshops that will be presented by psychotherapists Christine Allison and Brenda Bomgardner this year.  These workshops are the first in a series on psychological flexibility presented by Christine and Brenda.

Psychological Flexibility for the New Year

Brenda Bomgardner

Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being, and based on what the situation affords, changing or persisting in behavior in the service of chosen values. In this workshop you will learn psychological flexibility. First, you need to know what your values are. We'll help you clarify your most important values. Then we'll teach you tools to act in accordance with your values, even when it is difficult to do so, even when it feels scary, anxiety-provoking or overwhelming. We'll teach you techniques to create a sense of expansiveness within and techniques that enable you to cope with difficult feelings, while you continue to actively pursue the life you want to be leading.

You're Not Who You Think You Are
Christine Allison

Have you ever heard these sayings? "I think therefore I am." "Learn to think for yourself." "Develop your mind." "Think harder." Our society teaches us that thinking is the ultimate human ability. We are encouraged to think logically and to think positively. Of course, thinking skills are very important. But there's more to you than your thoughts! In this workshop you will learn how to connect with that part of you that is separate from your thoughts, a part of you that's able to observe your mind in action, and is able to notice your mind's habitual and sometimes self-sabotaging patterns. This is your observing self. In this workshop, you will learn ways to utilize your observing self and develop psychological flexibility. You will learn to free yourself from the limitations that come from your thinking mind.
