The Word on WINGS
Spring 2010
Greetings!
I saw the first green tip of the crocus leaves peeking out from the ground today.  A sure sign that spring will arrive as long as I'm patient.

What have you been impatiently waiting for?  Change?  Growth?  Something you've worked hard toward?  As this season of renewal and re-birth begins, know that WINGS is here to assist you on the road to healing or supporting those you love who are healing.  Let us know what we can do to help you "spring" forward this season.

Thank you for reading and Happy Spring -

THANK YOU ACTION-ALERT RESPONDERS!
WINGS sent an action alert in January asking survivors to take a short survey on their experience with seeking help from their abuse and what effect mandatory reporting laws might have on seeking help. We'd like to thank those of you who responded and let you know that the Colorado legislature is considering Senate Bill 10-066 which would clarify the intent of the current statute on mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect when the victim is age 18 or over.

To date we've received 112 responses and 70% of those reported that knowing a mandatory report would be made about their abuse to law enforcement would influence their decision to seek help and 60% said this would cause them to not seek help at all.

WINGS has testified in support of this legislation because we believe it is important for survivors to have a voice in the reporting of their abuse when there are no other children in known or suspected danger.

The bill has passed the Senate and moves to the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, March 22nd.  The hearing will be heard in Room 0107 of the Capitol building.
