E-NEWS FROM YOUR LOCAL UNITED WAY
May 2011 Newsletter

Greetings!

As we begin planning for a new campaign season, it's important that we always remain focused on United Way's mission of uniting people, organizations and resources to improve lives in Hall County. Last year our message was a call to "Take Action".  This year we will ask you to take it a step further and "Live It".  Many of you have one of our "LIVE UNITED" t-shirts and now we want you to not just wear the shirt but to live its message.  We are encouraging you to not only give or volunteer once or twice a year, but to live a life of service to our community all year long.

Throughout the year we will feature local individuals telling their story of how they LIVE UNITED in hopes this will inspire you to form a relationship with our community.  In ways large and small, we can all help Hall County thrive and grow by giving, advocating, and volunteering

I DON'T JUST WEAR THE SHIRT, I LIVE IT

It is not enough to believe this notion, or represent it on your person, we all need to get out there and act.

Young Leaders Society hosted a Spring Picnic for the women and children of the Gateway Domestic Violence Center on April 17th. 20 Young Leaders helped hide eggs, played games and served lunch to nearly 40 women and children. Young Leaders had the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful spring day with friends and also help make a happy Easter memory for a child going through a difficult time in their life. Thank you to Schreiber Foods for the generous donation baskets, hundreds of candy filled eggs and tons of prizes. The food for the event was donated by McDonald's and Chick-fil-a.

The Young Leaders Society also enjoyed a great Year End Celebration with a Trivia Night at Grove Street Station. Over 60 members and guests were in attendance. The trivia tournament was a close match all night but the final "double or nothing" question made for an interesting result with "Team Awesome" coming out on top winning Keith Urban Tickets with limousine transportation. Second place team "The Avid Boaters" went home with a $500 Patron table for the John Jarrard Foundation Fall Concert on September 22 www.johnjarrardfoundation.com . Thank you to the John Jarrard Foundation, Walters Management and 2-Dog for the generous donation of door prizes.

We Are Proud to be a Part of Hall County Schools Honors Mentorship Program

For the past three months we have been privileged to work alongside Kaitlin Inman, a junior at Johnson High School.  Kaitlin is part of the Hall County Schools Honors Mentorship Program which provides students with opportunities to experience hands-on learning in fields that they find interesting.

While at United Way, Kaitlin was able to help with data entry, campaign mailings, and assisted with event logistics.  Kaitlin also created a website that places special emphases on community service and volunteering opportunities within Hall County.

We are proud to have been a part of this wonderful program that helps students to determine their future careers.  We wish Kaitlin the best of luck as she continues to pursue her dreams.

How Do You Live It?
