United Way of Hall County
Live United - United Way

  January 2010

Greetings!
United Way of Hall County is about relationships -- relationships with the community, with donors, with volunteers, with agencies, and with community partners.

Our vision is that United Way will be a driving force to create sustained changes in community conditions. Beyond simply providing funds, the mission of United Way is uniting people, organizations and resources to improve lives in Hall County.

During this year, we will be using this communication tool to highlight the different relationships that United Way has established. Those relationships are focused in 4 areas:  Children and Youth, Self-Sufficiency, Crisis Intervention, and Health. Some of our relationships are as large as national and even global organizations.  Some are individual one-on-one relationships. Some date back over 60 years to the beginning of United Way as the Community Chest.  Some don't even exist yet.  The opportunities to unite people, organizations and resources are diverse and unlimited.  To get us started on this relational journey, below please read about a relationship that positively impacts many girls in Hall County -- and provides me with one of my very favorite things in this world!

We've also added an ACTION section to our newsletter.  This is more than a Save the Date - it's a list of events, educational opportunities and information to help you TAKE ACTION to improve your life and others in Hall County.  Please help us by passing this newsletter on to others in our community.

And what about 2009?  Please mark your calendar to join us on Wednesday, March 10 for lunch and a celebration of this past year.

It's Girl Scout Cookie Time!
"Girl Scout cookies evoke a lot of passion across a wide spectrum of tastes and views. They are a major fundraiser for Girl Scouts, and many girls will tell you that they have learned about setting goals, planning, public speaking, marketing and money management and have paid their way to camp and other Girl Scout experiences through their participation in the cookie program."

Meet Grace Brown, Hall County Girl Scout
Grace is the 10 year old daughter of Kathleen and Kevin Brown.  She is a 4th grader in Mrs. Wagner's class at Mt. Vernon Elementary.  Besides being involved in Girl Scouts, she volunteers for Good News at Noon, serves on the Student Council at school, loves art, plays tennis and takes musical theater. She loves vacations at the beach!

"Selling Girl Scout cookies is fun. People love the cookies and will order them because, like Santa, they are only around once a year. I have learned that it is a lot of hard work and takes a lot of organizing when it is time to deliver the cookies. You have to be outgoing and happy when you ask people to order cookies. It is best to set a goal for yourself and try to reach it. Mostly it is the best part about being a Girl Scout and I am thankful for the people who are ordering from me.

This is my 2nd year being in Girl Scouts. I started as a Brownie last year and I am a Junior Girl Scout this year. I will be a Junior Girl Scout again next year. We meet twice a month on Tuesday afternoon. It is a fun way to spend time with girls my age. I have a troup of 12 girls. My leaders are great."
