We are all looking forward to the first day of school on Monday! To get the year off to a smooth start, here are some helpful tips, along with news about textbooks and how to get football tickets, which go on sale Aug. 25.
Q: Where can I find school hours, maps, calendars, sports schedules, handbooks and information about school board meetings?
A: The HPISD website: www.hpisd.org
- You'll also find school hours and other helpful information on our campus websites:
Q: How will I be receiving news throughout the school year?
A. HPISD sends a districtwide e-newsletter to parents, staff and local media every Friday. The e-news covers stories and announcements from every campus and includes photos and video links.
We welcome news submissions from our parents, students and employees.
Click HERE to access the online form to submit news, along with up to three photos or other attachments.
The deadline for each Friday newsletter is 4 p.m. Tuesday.
In addition to the e-news, parents who signed up for e-groups during online registration will receive announcements from their campuses and any other e-groups they joined.
Q. What are the new changes to the textbook ordering system?
A. During the Special Session in June, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 6, the Instructional Materials Allotment Bill. The bill significantly restructured the state textbook system, forcing the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to redesign its systems and processes, which resulted in delaying the first order date for new materials until Aug. 8. The changes affect every public school district and charter school in the state by altering the way the textbook business is run for everyone.
As a result, HPISD expects that delivery of the newly adopted English/Language Arts materials in the areas of spelling, grammar, punctuation and handwriting will occur after the start of school. Additional copies of current materials needed as a result of increased enrollment will also be delayed. However, teachers have updated resources available for providing quality day-to-day classroom instruction in advance of receiving the new materials.
