End back pain without drugs or surgery
|
In the past, after a period of medication usage, therapy, and chiropractic care that brought some relief, a patient suffering from disc problems would often seek surgery as their last hope for full recovery from their malady and accompanying pain. Now there is another option for these sufferers. It's called spinal decompression, and it may be able to help patients heal--without heading to the operating table.
Developed by top physicians and medical engineers to effectively treat lower back pain and sciatica resulting from herniated or deteriorated discs, spinal decompression technology applies a distraction force to relieve nerve compression. Spinal decompression not only significantly reduces severe discomfort in patients, but also enables many to return to more active lifestyles.
Spinal decompression has been proven effective in relieving pain associated with:
- Low back pain, unilateral or bilaterial
- Herniated or bulging discs, nerve impingement
- Sciatica (leg and foot pain and numbness)
- Post-surgical patients with failed back syndrome
- Cervical (neck) pain and symptoms
During your initial consultation, our therapists, in conjunction with your own doctors, will determine if you are a candidate for this state-of-the-art treatment available at Adkore. Call Adkore now at 407-328-7595 for more information or to set up your consultation.

Back care boot camp
|
The statistics aren't pretty. More than 80 percent of us will have back pain at some point in our lives. Diagnosis can be tricky--lower-back pain involves many variables and moving parts--tendons, muscles, and multiple joints--and pinpointing the problem can be likened to reading tea leaves. And without proper diagnosis, the infamous but ambiguous "bad back" plagues many to the grave. Depressed yet? Don't be. Below are some pointers that, if followed, should keep you upright and in the game forever.
- Regular exercise increases your back's flexibility and endurance. You should exercise the muscles that support your back, such as those in the stomach, hips, buttocks, and thighs, especially the abdominal muscles that help to keep your body's weight centered on your spine.
- Always stretch before exercise or other strenuous physical activity.
- Don't slouch when standing or sitting. When standing, keep your weight balanced on your feet. Your back supports weight most easily when curvature is reduced.
- At home or work, make sure your work surface is at a comfortable height for you. Sit in a chair with good lumbar support. Keep your shoulders back. Switch sitting positions often and periodically walk around the office or gently stretch muscles to relieve tension. If you must sit for a long period of time, rest your feet on a low stool.
- Wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes.
- Always sleep on a firm surface. Don't lie on your stomach, since that causes the abdominal muscles to sag. Instead, lie on your side with knees bent to relieve pressure on the discs. It's helpful to place a pillow between the knees to help keep stress off the hips and lower spine. For the same reason, if you lie on your back, keep your knees slightly bent by putting a pillow under them. While a firmer mattress provides support for the spine at all points, a mattress that is too hard can also cause pain. The important factors when choosing a mattress are personal preference and comfort level.
- Don't try to life objects too heavy for you. Lift with your knees, pull in your stomach muscles, and keep your head down and in line with your straight back. Keep the object close to your body. Do not twist when lifting. When you lift, bend at the knees, not at the waist. Let your leg muscles do most of the work. If possible, push a heavy object instead of lifting it or pulling it. Pulling is more likely to injure your back.
- If you need to turn to the side, turn by moving your feet and not twisting your back.
- Maintain proper nutrition and diet to reduce and prevent excessive weight, especially weight around the waistline that taxes lower back muscles. Excess weight puts increased strain on back muscles and ligaments. A diet with sufficient daily intake of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D helps to promote new bone growth.
- If you smoke, quit, Smoking reduces blood flow to the lower spine and causes the spinal discs to degenerate.
