Help . . . for Those with MS
Whether you have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or care about someone who does, learning as much as you can about the disease and treatment options is necessary in order to maximize the quality of life for the MS sufferer.

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The symptoms, severity, and progress of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another.

Although there is still no cure for MS, effective strategies are available to modify the disease course, treat exacerbations, manage symptoms improve function and safety, and provide emotional support. Most MS symptoms can be successfully managed with strategies that include medication, self-care techniques, the use of assistive devices, and rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation programs are designed to help patients improve or maintain the ability to perform effectively and safely at home or at work. Adkore rehabilitation professionals focus on overall fitness and energy management, while addressing problems with accessibility and mobility.

According to the National MS Society, "Rehabilitation is an important component of comprehensive, quality health care for people with MS, at all stages of the disease."

==Ergonomics
Are Ergonomics Working for You?
Working Americans spend about 2,000 hours a year at their places of work. Not surprisingly, all this work can take its toll.

Exposure to adverse working conditions can result in momentary pain or long-term injury. Moreover, poorly designed working environments contribute to reduced efficiency, decreased production, loss of income, and increased medical claims. Fortunately, professionals use a science called "ergonomics" to help alleviate the conditions that cause occupational disoders and injuries. The ultimate goal of ergonomics is to design the workplace so that it accommodates the variety of human capabilities and limitations to prevent musculoskeletal disorders.

Perhaps the most commonly discussed workplace injuries are carpal tunnel syndrome and related maladies of the wrist and hand. Althought typewriters have been in use for more than 100 years in American offices, the use of computers--with intensive keyboard use for data entry and word processing--has given rise to a generation at risk for such injuries. Carpal tunnel syndrome and related discorders including tendonitis, trigger finger, hand-arm vibration disease, deQuervain's disease, and myalgia, are part of a group of illnesses known as cumulative trauma disorders.

Yet the most frequent physical complaint from people who spend a lot of time in front of a  computer monitor? Eyestrain.

In addition to cumulative trauma disorders and vision difficulties, back problems are another common complaint during the prolonged use of computer terminals. Poor posture (held for long periods), poorly designed work areas and poorly adjusted chairs, and sustained activity without breaks can all contribute to varying amounts of back, shoulder, and neck pain.

If you believe you are experiencing symptoms from less-than-satisfactory ergonomics, Adkore can help you recognize the cause and make recommendations to you and your employer to improve your workstation.
Injections Can Assist in Acupuncture Therapy
Homeopathic injections--Homeopathic medicines are based on natural compounds found in nature. They are often a good alternative to more conventional medicines, as they produce fewer (if any) side effects. Plant and mineral compounds that are known to have therapeutic effects are diluted in sterile saline solutions and packaged in sterile glass ampules for injections.

The two products used at Adkore, Zeel and Traumeel, have been meticulously researched and found to be the most effective for trauma-induced disorders. Traumeel is used for most acute types of trauma. It significantly reduces pain and inflammation--and speeds the healing process. Zeel is most often used for tendonitis and miscellaneous joint pain caused by arthritis or other degenerative joint disorders. These products conform to all American Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) standards.

The treatments consist of series of small, subcutaneous injections around the affected areas. These injections may sting just a bit, and, as with all homeopathic treatments, the conditions may be aggravated temporarily. However, patients generally feel relief within 24 hours. Homeopathic medicines are safe to use with all conventional medicines.

B12 injections--Vitamin B12 is an essential, water-soluble vitamin commonly found in a variety of foods such as fish, shellfish, meat, and dairy products. Vitamin B12 is frequently used in combination with other B vitamins in a vitamin B complex formulation. It helps maintain healthy nerve and red blood cells and is also needed to make DNA, the genetic material in all cells.

Poor eating, strict vegetarian diets, and certain digestive disorders can lead to a vitamin B12 deficiency. Food-derived B12 requires that the acid in your stomach break it down for absorption, so those who take inhibitors such as Zantac or Pepcid may also have lower B12 levels. In addition, type 2 diabetics who take Metformin may be at risk of lower levels of B12.

The injectable vitamin used by Adkore is in the form of Methylcobalamin, which has been shown to help metabolic deficiencies and has also been used to help peripheral and diabetic neuropathies. Studies have shown that the Methylcobalamin form of the vitamin stays in the body longer, requiring fewer injections. It is compounded here in the U.S. and conforms to all GMP standards.
