Do You Really Believe?
Do You Really Believe?
by Jacques McNeil
Mark 11:24 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (NIV)
It is safe to say that we all have a laundry list of things that we're praying for, and at least two to three of these requests are near and dear to our hearts. Mark 11:24 reminds us that when we pray, believe and we shall have "IT"....This passage of scripture encourages us to not only pray, but to have GREAT expectation when we pray. In Acts 12:1-16 the reigning Kind Herod persecuted members of the church because of their belief in Jesus Christ. He murdered James and because of the favorable response he received from the Jews, he arrested Peter and placed him in prison to await his "dooms day."
While Peter was imprisoned a group of his fellow church members prayed without ceasing for him. Miraculously, the Father sent an angel to release Peter from prison and immediately he went to the house where the saints were interceding on his behalf. It is at this point that this story gets interesting; because it is here that we see Peter knocking at the door, a young girl by the name of Rhoda comes to the door, but because of her excitement she runs to tell those who are praying that Peter's at the door. When Rhoda shared the good news, the group of intercessors not only didn't believe her, they even stated that she was crazy. When they finally realized that Peter was actually at the door, they were all amazed.
Wow! Imagine that...they were praying for his release, their prayer was answered and their first response was total disbelief, and then astonishment. Why is this? Could it have been that they expected the miracle to come in another way, or were they religiously going through the motions, but lacking faith?
Hebrews 11:1 states, "Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it." (NCV) As women of faith, it is imperative that we believe that God can and will answer our prayers. I realize that there are some petitions that we've been waiting for what seems like an eternity, but Habakkuk 2:3 states, "The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won't be a lie. If it's delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won't be late." (GW) We must visualize what we want to see, yet be open for God to be sovereign. Bishop Drew Sheard stated, "You must see it, before you see it, in order to actually see it." Our faith will actually produce startling results and the faith that God honors takes Him at his word and lives expectantly and obediently in the present, waiting for Him to fulfill his promises.
Trust, Rest and Watch! Your answer will come at the appointed time. Expect it, believe it and begin offering up praise and thanksgiving now because it's on the way.

Radical Faith|Praying for Fun
Radical Faith | Praying for Funby Kimberley Thompson
Some of us are so heavenly bound that we are no earthly good. For many of us the thought or simple act of having a good time is an uncomfortable state of being. When was the last time you had some fun? Recently my mentor challenged me with this questioned and I sheepishly shared my escapade of dancing by myself for the thrill of it while listening to my ipod. This experience got me thinking seriously about my own personal barriers to having fun and my need to incorporate more fun in my life in order to have a well balanced life. My mentor challenged me to make it my goal to make fun an acceptable and comfortable part of my life experience. The truth is Jesus had fun. Remember he and the disciples were invited to the wedding at Cana in Galilee (John 2:2). In my mind I imaged he danced and enjoyed the celebration, after all he changed the water into wine on the third day of the wedding. In the Old Testament we see David dancing with all of his might before the Lord (2 Samuel 6:14). In fact if we look closely though out the Bible we will find many examples of singing and dancing to the Lord as examples of good old fashion fun ( Exodus 15:20; Psalm 149:3;150:4). I want to challenge you in your time of meditation and prayer to ask yourself the following questions. Are you having fun? If not, what is stopping you? Make a list of some fun activities that you can incorporate in your life? (examples: bike riding, picnic, fly a kite, painting, throw yourself a party) The next step is to pray and ask God to help you have fun. God wants you to have a well balanced life and that includes laughter and fun. Our prayers are often distress calls to God. This time do something different and ask him to show you how to have fun, after all he created fun. Something to think about: Living Your Prayer Life:
- Ask God to help you incorporate some good old fashion fun into your life.
- Make a list of things to do and do them.
- Commit to laughing and enjoying life more.
In your personal prayer time: - Father, thank you for pointing out that I need to incorporate fun in my life. You created laughter and dance, remove any barriers that prevent me from enjoying myself and help me to embrace these experiences.
Memory Verse: - Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
