Divine Interruptions
Divine Interruptions
by Jacques McNeil
Romans 8:28 states, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
Tavis Smiley's dream project, "America I Am: The African-American Imprint" is an exhibit that was on display at the California Science Center for several months. The goal of this traveling exhibit, which Smiley is presenting around the country, is to celebrate nearly 500 years of African-American contributions, not only to the United States, but to the world. As W.E.B. Du Bois once pointedly asked, "Would America have been America without her Negro people?" I would answer with a resounding "NO." The contributions that we have made and continue to make in the world socially, economically, politically, educationally and spiritually will live on forever. God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to bring Africans to America in a very unconventional way for a specific purpose.
Our Heavenly Father collaborated with humanity and the environment and caused a "divine interruption." A "divine interruption" is defined as God causing or making a break in the continuity or uniformity of (a course, process, condition, etc.).God utilized humanity and the environment very strategically in order for Africans to be brought to the "New World" for a purpose far greater than we could have ever imagined. This was not a comfortable situation, but He somehow worked all things together for our good, and enabled us to blossom and achieve great success here in the "New World." According to Professor McKinley Johnson, "The right environment produces endless possibilities, new opportunities as well as tremendous challenges."
This "divine interruption" in the life of our forefathers, in the life of Joseph, in Genesis 37-50, and others in the Bible clearly speaks to the fact that "The plans and thoughts that God has for us are to prosper us and not harm us, to give a future filled with hope." (Jeremiah 29:11)
I have read about and spoken with countless individuals who can attest to the fact that while in the midst of pursuing their goals and dreams, they experienced a "divine interruption." It is during this time that much humiliation, disappointment, frustration, hopelessness, and even doubting God can occur; however, it is in the midst of adverse situations that one develops in areas unimaginable. Character is developed, along with an experiential knowledge of who God really is to us individually coupled with learning to fully and completely trust and depend on the God who says "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
As we submit to the process - God's development process, during the "divine interruptions", He can fashion us into His image and likeness. God's ways are not our ways, but if we trust that He loves us unconditionally and that He will perform the good work that He began in us, I believe we will be better able to embrace, rather than resist the "divine interruptions."

Radical Obedience|A Brave New World
Radical Obedience | A Brave New World
by Kimberley Thompson
"See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you." Isaiah 42:9
A forerunner or trailblazer is someone who goes ahead of others often creating new roads or traveling to places that others have not gone to before. Theses experiences are often noted as being innovative and groundbreaking. What sets these types of people apart from others? What are they thinking about as they embark on foreign terrain? What is inspiring them to keep going at the face of adversity? Is the Lord telling them to go like He told Abraham in Genesis 12 or did they volunteer without hesitation by responding "Here I am. Send me!" when they heard Him call? (Isaiah 6:8)
Isaiah 42:9 reminds me that God through His precious Word speaks to the forerunner in all of us. He wants to do a "new" thing in our lives. The "new" thing can be a new job, business, ministry, idea, legacy or marriage. Do not put a limit on God when He tells you that He is going to do something. God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). The "new" thing will require having faith without a frame of reference. This will not be the time to dwell on past revelations because it will not be the solution for what lies ahead. You will have to rely on the help of the Holy Spirit to fuel you with perseverance, courage and hope to strengthen your faith as you enter into the brave new world and leave your imprint.
Living Your Prayer Life:
o Pray and ask God to help you to remain dependent on him and the Holy Spirit as you embark on the journey o Pray and ask God to help you trust Him even when you don't see the bigger picture o Pray and ask God to help you stay committed until the end
In your personal prayer time:
Father, I can only blaze new trails with your help and assistance of the Holy Spirit. I am completely dependent upon you and do not want to be wise in my own eyes or lean to my own understanding. Guide my feet and keep me on levels paths. Help me to be ready and prepared to receive the blessings you have for me. Amen.
