Defeat Your Goliath
by Jacques McNeil

1 Samuel 17:47 "Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord's, and He will give you into our hands."

David and Goliath is quite a familiar Bible story, and my earliest recollection of hearing it dates back to when I was a child. Over the years I have heard countless individuals share their adaptation of this story, however, the emphasis has generally been on the fact that a little shepherd boy used a sling shot and a few stones to kill a giant. That was an astonishing victory that displayed the miraculous hand of God. However, as I read this story recently, I discovered that what occurred before David struck and killed this Philistine was profound and noteworthy.

We've all encountered giant-sized problems/situations in our lives and I believe if we apply the following steps found in 1 Samuel,  we to will experience victory. Prior to killing Goliath, David did the following:

David was obedient: David was a shepherd who took pride in his job, however, when his father requested that he take food and drink to his brothers who were in a battle, he responded immediately. When our Heavenly Father gives us instruction, obedience requires responding immediately.

David remembered his past victories: When David offered to fight Goliath, King Saul instantly replied, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are a youth." David answered, "The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion, and the paw of the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." (1 Sam. 17:33, 34) Remembering the miracles that God has performed in our lives will cause us to grab hold of faith and hope in the midst of challenges.

David comprehended the power in the Name of God: When Goliath came to David he brought a sword, a spear and a javelin, but the little Shepherd boy David, stated, "I come in the Name of the Lord of Hosts." (1 Sam. 17: 45) David realized that he wasn't going to emerge victoriously in because of his name, or in his strength, but he knew the power that was in the  name of God.

David spoke faith-filled words: Saul's entire army was afraid of Goliath, but David not only faced him, he stated these words, "This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand and I will strike you and take your head from you. Matthew 21:21 says, "but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done."  What are you speaking as you face challenging situations? Are you allowing your emotions to dictate what you say, or are you choosing to stand on the Word of God, regardless of what you see?

David ran to the giant: 1 Samuel 17:48 says, "And it was so, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that  David hastened and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine." He didn't allow fear to cause him to run from Goliath, because he knew that he wasn't alone.

You my sister are not alone as you encounter giant-like situations. Just as our Heavenly Father was with David, He will be with you as well. I encourage you to meditate on the points above, and you to will emerge victoriously as you face your Goliath. Remember, the battle is not your battle, but it's the Lord's. (1Sam. 17:47b)

Radical Thoughts|No Greater Love
FlowersRadical Thoughts | No Greater Love

by Kimberley Thompson

I wrote these words on my Facebook page the other day "I am overwhelmed by God's love right now.  If you had told me that I would experience what I am experiencing in my life, I would have said that it was impossible.  I know now that nothing is impossible with Him."  These words were my declaration that I am experiencing God's love in a new and refreshing way.  I have moved passed a "head" understanding of His deep love for me to a "heart" knowledge of what is means to accept that He has first and always loved me just as I am.

My realization of God's love for me did not come easy.  Like many of us I have experienced many emotional bumps and bruises in my life which has resulted in my lack of understanding and acceptance of God's love.  I was constantly trying to integrate my concept of love with God's concept of love which is spelled out in His Word (1 Corinthians 13:1-13 and 1 John 4: 9-10; 16b; 19).  This kind of thinking always left me with less than stellar results and questioning God's love for me.  One day I made a decision that I wanted to experience all the love that God has for me. (Ephesians 3:18 and Romans 8:35).  By studying God's Word and constantly praying, my heart has finally caught up with the knowledge that resides in my head about God's love.  It was not an easy task and my journey is far from over.  Below I have outlined some simple steps you can implement in your life as you seek to live in the realty of God's love.

Living Your Prayer Life:

 Realize that nothing else matters.  Your understanding of God's love is all that matters.
 Realize that God knows you intimately.  (Isaiah 49:16; Psalm 139:1;13)
 Accept that God's love is different from your concept of love.  Determine that God's definition of love trumps everything.
 Study, Mediate and Pray God's Word.  (Jeremiah 31:3; Psalm 91:4; Psalm 36:7;  1 Corinthians 13:8)

 In your personal prayer time:

· Father, thank you for the extravagant love that you lavish upon me (1 John 3:1) everyday. Today, I pray for an increased capacity to receive and accept the love that you have for me.  Help me to seek you with my whole heart, soul, mind and strength until your understanding of how much you love me lives deep within my heart.  Amen.

God wants to Do Something Miraculous in Your Life

by Dana Frelix

Theme: "God Wants to Do Something Miraculous in Your Life"
Read: Isaiah 43:15 - 21

Reflect: God wants to move miraculously in your life; the question is will you allow Him?

The above passage of scripture offers three points of action to consider as we ponder this thought.

1. Realize How Great Your God is:  We serve a great and mighty God who specializes in doing things that seem impossible. He has the power to turn sickness into health, death into life, and nothingness into the most brilliant and beautiful of creations.  He is the fuel behind the very things we deem powerful, and He is our God!

2. Don't Get Stuck in the Past:  The past has already happened, so let it go. Sometimes we spend too much time lamenting over the "what if's" and "should haves" of life and even old ways of doing things. Refuse to expend any more energy on things you cannot change because they act as barriers to you receiving anything fresh and new. Begin today opening your mind to the here and now.  You might be amazed at how just living in the present will create space for you to be blessed by God.

Secondly, realize there are many dimensions to God and His creative power.  Take yourself out of the box of doing business as usual and allow Him to move in your life in ways you've never seen or imagined.

3. Expect God to Move Miraculously in Your Life: God so wants to bless you, but you must do your part in receiving His blessing.  Believe and take Him at His Word.  He's God and He cannot lie.  In fact He says His Word cannot return void (Isaiah 55:11).  Faith in God's Word encourages you and it also sends a message to Him that you absolutely trust Him.

Secondly, once you have activated your faith rest yourself.  Allow your mind, body, soul and spirit to be at ease because you know God is going to do what He has promised in His Word.

Challenge:
1. Do you need a greater understanding of God's greatness? If so, read Psalm 139 which talks about God's Omnipresence and His Omniscience.
2. List two things you will start doing today that will assist you in living life in the here and now.
3. List two things you will start doing today that will assist you in resting on God's promises for your life.
