Mustard Seed Faith

by Jacques McNeil

Matthew 17:19, 20 "Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.""

Happy New Year! Not only is it 2010, but it is the beginning of a new decade. The number 10 represents the perfection of divine order, and I am standing in faith believing that we will all experience divine order in our lives this year.

The WBC theme this year is "Testing the Limits" and in order for us to attempt to "Test the Limits", faith is the requisite. The Bible records a story of a man who brought his demon-possessed son to the disciples for them to cast the demon out. The disciples attempted to cast the demon out of this little lad, but they were unsuccessful. At a later time the man brought his son to Jesus and immediately He was able to cast the demon out. The disciples were curious and puzzled and they asked Jesus, "Why could we not cast it out?" Jesus simply responded and said, "because of your little faith."

I am certain that we could pose the same question to Jesus regarding various situations in our lives that we weren't able to do, and His response would be the same...."O you of little faith." You see the faith that is required to move the mountains in our lives is mustard seed faith. If we were to research a mustard seed, we would find that it is one of the smallest seeds in the world and it is about the size of a pin-head. When this seed is planted it grows into a bush and it keeps on multiplying. But even though this seed is one of the smallest in the world, Jesus referenced it regarding the amount of faith that we need to provoke great results in our lives.

If you find yourself focusing on your personal abilities or inabilities as you reflect on the great things God has said that you will do, please shift your attention from you to the God we serve who says, "with God all things are possible."
As you begin to exercise mustard seed faith, realize that God will also enable you to build on your faith. Romans 10:17 says that, "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." So my sister, you can increase your faith by reading, studying and meditating on the Word of God, and by listening to others teach and preach the Word of God. You will then discover that the Word has been planted in your heart and you will then be able to live, breathe, speak, and walk according to God's Word continually. Additionally you find that your faith has increased as well.

As you endeavor to "Test the Limits" in 2010, remember that you don't have to pray for great faith so that you can do great things---simply pray for faith the size of a mustard seed and watch God move miraculously on your behalf.

Radical Thoughts|Rethink the New Year
FlowersRadical Thoughts |Rethink the New Year

by Kimberley Thompson

Out with the old and in with the new "decade". I am looking forward to 2010 with mixed emotions: nervousness and excitement. It is funny how they both feel similar, a little tension, twinges of apprehension combined with the thrill of anticipation and great expectations. The very thought of the endless possibilities of what can happen in the next 365 days conjures up images of new hope, new opportunities, new paths, new relationships and new foundations. These will be days that you and I have never seen before and I, without a doubt want to be ready for what I am going to experience and see.

By the time you read this message our journey into the New Year would have begun. Are you ready for the "new things" (Isaiah 42:9) that God has prepared for you? The good news is that there is still time to prepare for the adventure ahead.  One way to get ready is to fast and pray (1 Samuel 7:5-6). Fasting is when you abstain from food and drink for a period of time. Fasting combined with prayer is a sure way to prepare for where God is going to take you this year.

Our time of fasting and prayer should focus on God (Luke2:37) and we should diligently seek his face (1 Chron. 16:11; 2 Chron. 7:14). Our love for God is shown when we pursue Him with our whole heart (Matt 22:37). Beginning the year by offering these first fruits will offer great rewards (Isaiah 58; Hebrew 11:6) that will unfold in the days ahead.
Living Your Prayer Life:
· FAST: Fast the first 21 days of January. Need more information read Jentezen Franklin book titled "Fasting" or go to www.daniel-fast.com for more information on how to start a fast.
· PRAY: Deepen your relationship with God by spending time with Him in prayer
· STUDY: Study the Word of God and incorporate the Word of God in your prayers
· ACCOUNTABILITY: Get a prayer partner
· MINISTRY: Join a prayer ministry or small group
 In your personal prayer time:
· Thank God for the opportunity to see another year! (Psalm 90:12).  Praise him for what is has done and what he is going to do.
· Pray and study the names of God; God want you to know Him intimately.
· Repent for your sins, sins of omission and commission and those blind spots we often ignore.

Father, I thank you for the privilege to worship and praise your name. As I begin this year I dedicate my body to you as a living sacrifice as I seek your face teach me your ways, guide and instruct me in the way I should go. Amen.
