It's Not About YOU!
by Jacques McNeil

Galatians 2:20 says, "I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me."

In the beginning months of 1995, I was encouraged to enter a local beauty contest.  This was the first time in my life that I had ever considered entering, but I did and much to my surprise, I WON!!!!  Wow, I was amazed and excited and I thought it was a great opportunity.  I was then encouraged to enter a state contest that would take place in the Newport Beach area in the month of August.  I discussed it with my husband and we agreed that I should enter the Mrs. Southern California Beauty Pageant.  This pageant was definitely going to be more of a challenge, but I was up for it.  During the weekend that we were preparing for the contest, I met wonderful women from all parts of Southern California, and it was a chance to try something new.  Well, it's the final moments before the winner would be announced and it seemed as though for a moment that time completely stopped.  At the end of the event, I was selected as the 2nd Runner Up in the Mrs. Southern California Beauty Contest.  One would think that I should have been bouncing off the walls with excitement, but it was quite the contrary.  I was more than bummed that I didn't win.
Little did I know that in less than two weeks after this event that the Lord would give me the idea to begin a book club for Christian women.  I was so focused on the fact that I didn't win, that I couldn't enjoy the success that I had attained, nor realize the fact that if I had won the contest I would have been off for at least a year discussing and rallying for my platform.  This would have had me physically and mentally in another zone, and quite possibly not in a position to hear the Lord when He spoke to me regarding W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club.  That was more than 13 years ago, and Praise God, we are still going strong.

You see, the phrase "It's Not About YOU" is one that we've heard countless times, but I wonder if we really comprehend the true meaning and essence of this powerful phrase.  When you accept the Lord as your Savior, it is no longer "you" who lives, but Christ who lives in you.  In the above passage of scripture, the self-centered, self-righteous Saul died as he yielded the throne of his life to Christ.  But he didn't do this in his own strength. The living Christ Himself took up residence in his heart, because he stated "Christ lives in me."
Sisters, when you surrender your will to the Lord and as you say "yes Lord" daily, He will empower you to do that which seems impossible as well.  It is no longer about your agenda, your goals, your expectations, etc. In our self-absorbed, Me, Me, Me, culture this is a totally foreign concept for even the Church to embrace.  It is also a difficult concept to embrace. Many have been taught to plan for your future, and to set and accomplish goals for your life.  Additionally, many have also come to believe that if things don't go according to "the plan", that surely, they have done something wrong.  Proverbs 16:9 states, "A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps."

Personally, I caught the vision that "my life was not my own" two years after the pageant. My husband and I were preparing to dine out for breakfast.  It was there in my bedroom between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. that it hit me like a ton of bricks that "my life was not my own."  I must say I was overwhelmed at best.  In fact, I was speechless! More so, because I knew that if I opened my mouth to utter one word that a flood gate of tears would begin to pour from my eyes.  I realized at that moment that it was no longer about my goals, my dreams, my timeline, etc. my life was no longer (not that it had ever been) my own.  I tried to hold off from speaking for as long as I could, but we arrived at the restaurant and I had to order breakfast, and at that moment when I opened my mouth, YES, a flood gate of tears began to pour.  The waitress thought I was ill and she assured me that my breakfast would be there immediately.  Of course I was not sick, but I didn't even know I needed to come to this realization, and I for sure had no idea that I would be affected in this manner.

That was more than 10 years ago, and I thank God for that awakening.  I have grown in areas and ways I would have never imagined, but I must still choose to die daily and continue to realize that "It's not about me."  My life is hid with Christ in God (Col. 3:3).  In fact, just a few years ago, I was yet again consumed with how things were not going as planned. The Lord spoke very clearly to me and said, "you are so busy holding on to your idea of how things should be, that you can't let go to experience all that I have for you, which is far better than your idea."  Ouch!!!  Are there dreams, plans, ideas, etc. that you are holding on to as well?  If you know the Lord is moving you in a different direction for this season, trust His lead.  He really does love you. The thoughts and plans that he has for you are for good, and not for evil.  He has a future and a hope for you (Jer. 29:11), and his plans for you are far better than you could ever imagine.  If this is a challenging area for you, ask the Holy Spirit to assist you and I can assure you that He will.  Just take the initial step, and He will be there as you travel on your set journey.

Sisters, I encourage you to completely allow the Lord to truly be Lord of your life.  As you do, this will enable you to fully embrace the fact that "It's Not About You."

The Classic Miracle
Miracles
The Classic Miracle
by Joy Moore

I just became a grand-mother for the 3rd time Thursday April 3, 2008. The new addition to our family is Marley Noel Rankins and it is a divine miracle that she is alive. This amazing story began when my son and his family were in a car accident Monday (March 31, 2008).  My son and his family were traveling on the 210 Fwy and a driver who was in the in the carpool lane decided that he needed to exit and proceeded to cut across the freeway on what appeared to be 2 wheels. My son, in an attempt to avoid being hit by this foolish driver. His car went up the embankment and flipped over 6 times.  My daughter-in-law's (to be, Zohron) body was ejected from the vehicle and her body was tossed in the air and landed more than 70 feet away, onto the freeway (210 at Lake Avenue- in Pasadena at 7 pm).  My son and one yr old grandson remained in the car as it continued to flip over repeatedly. My grandson eventually came out of his car seat- and my son, in desperation lifted up his hands over his head and yelled "Jesus"; at that time my grandson came flying from the backseat of the car and his little face landed right in the palms of my son's upraised hands. Zohron landed on the freeway on her right hip and balled up in a fetal position to protect the baby- she then began to roll down the freeway (like a tire).

The only witness, who stopped his car on the freeway to protect Zohron from being hit by other cars said that he thought she was a tire that had come off due to the accident. The witness placed his jacket over her and remained with her until she was taken in the ambulance. My son called 9-1-1 and then ME . I live one block from where the accident occurred and I arrived in time to accompany my grandson in the ambulance.  Zohron and son were immediately taken to emergency in an ambulance.

After 6 hours of tests my son was released. (MIRACLE) He only suffered bruising and a small cut on his hand. (MIRACLE)  My grandson was released too with not even a scratch. (MIRACLE, MIRACLE, MIRACLE)  Zohron went into labor; however, her water bag did not break. (MIRACLE) She was given meds to stop the labor for three days and steroids were given to increase the lung development for the unborn child.  On Thursday April 3rd, 2008 God hand-delivered a beautiful baby girl who was given the name Marley Noel Rankins. Marley weighed in at 5lbs and 3 ounces, with no complications. The Neonatology's team was on alert, and after checking her extensively, she was found to be in good health. Marley did not suffer any injuries or effects from the accident (DOUBLE MIRACLE)  Zohron  must under go extensive physical therapy due to pain in her hip, however, she is able to walk, and does not have ONE broken bone in her body.(TRIPLE MIRACLE)

On the day that they all went home from the hospital, the doctor came in to speak with Ryan and Zohron, and shared with them that he had suffered a near death experience early on in his life, and he vowed to "do something meaningful" with his life. He went on to share with both Ryan and Zohron that what happened to them was a miracle. He said that he had practiced medicine for quite some time he knew a miracle when he saw one. He told them that they should find out what Marely's purpose is because she was spared for a reason. He told Zohron that if she limped for the rest of her life, to let each limp be a "thank offering" to God for sparing her life and the life of her family.

Ryan has since found a full-time job with benefits and God is moving in his life and drawing him closer to Himself. He can definitely say that he has "experienced God's mercy, grace and favor for himself.  Zohron is busy caring for Little Ryan and Marley. They have relocated to California, but anticipate moving back to Atlanta in the future.

All praise goes to God, our Father!  Marley Noel Rankins is indeed a Classic Miracle from God.  We are convinced that it was nothing but the mercy and protection of God that saved all of their lives.

In hindsight I realize that I could have been planning four funerals after all of this transpired, but God was merciful to me and has given me joy unspeakable and full of glory.  This experience has truly taught me to cherish and appreciate each and every
moment here on Earth. If you love someone, tell them, show them, pray for them and care for them.

To God Be The Glory
FlowersTo God Be The Glory
By Dottie Love

"When he heard this, Jesus said, 'This sickness will not end in death.  No it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it.'" (John 11:14 NIV)

I'm sure we have all heard the phrase, "You are the only Bible some people will ever read," or, "People are watching you because you say you are a Christian."  To be honest, I let those words go in one ear and out the other.  I have rarely stopped to consider that someone could be watching me as I go about my daily routines.  However, not too long ago, I was forced to realize that these statements may very well hold some truth. How about you?

It was on a Sunday morning when I didn't want to move, not even to open my eyes.  But, I kept sensing the prompting of the Holy Spirit to get up and go to church.  That day, it took more effort than usual.  Because of the knots in my back and legs, I needed to use my cane, and I moved more like an unsteady toddler than a woman in her early forties.

While Norman and I walked up to the church, a woman hurried behind us. She rushed around us and said, "Excuse me." The angry impatience in her voice was obvious.  We stepped aside and paused so she could go ahead. She walked a few feet, before turning back to us. "You know?  Your perseverance encourages me," she told me.  She looked down at my feet.  I'm sure she was trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Then, she added, "If you made the effort to come out to church today, I must ask myself why I woke up complaining." She offered a tiny smile.  "Thank you for your faithfulness and example to me.  I pray that you will have a blessed day."

Shocked and stunned, I could only nod and stammer,

"Thanks." Her comments have stayed with me.  I was focused on getting inside the sanctuary to receive a message of hope from God - a word that would help me get through the week.  I wasn't trying to be a source of encouragement for someone else.  Who would have imagined that God would get the glory as I struggled to make it to church?

That encounter caused me to believe that God can get the glory from our trials and challenges, even on the days when we see and feel the impatience of those around us.  Each one of us faces different times of testing - times when we struggle just to get through the day.  It may be a physical battle, an emotional upset, or a spiritual darkness that comes against us.  A time when we are fighting for our survival and sanity.  A time when we hang on to God, our very life line.  Yet, no matter where we are, or what we face at this moment, we must remember that God is with us each step of the way.   For every impatient and rude person we encounter - those who wish to ignore us or shun us- there are others who will gain inspiration from us.  Let us learn to embrace our tests, seeking God in the midst of them and allowing Him to use us for His glory.

"Lord, help me to do great things though they were little, since I do them with Your power; and little things as though they were great, since I do them in Your name.
