EricHeadshot09 Greetings!

Talk about the highs and lows from one month to the next!!!  We go from the joy of celebrating the Wenatchee Wild's success of a runner-up finish in the NAHL tournament to the firing of the Town Toyota Center's management.  We went from the beautiful sunshine that made for fantastic spring skiing for the hearty hikers at Mission Ridge to the thunderous storms of early June that left fires burning in North Central Washington.  And we went from the budgetary hand-wringing during spring break to the hand-waving salute to the class of 2009.  What a spring, huh?!
There's a bunch to get to in this news letter, so I'll get right to it.  Enjoy and don't forget to sign up for the O'Terry's Softball Tournament and we'll soon have tickets on sale for Sips & Suds in August.

Happy Trails

Public Facilities District Gives Global 90-Days NoticePFD Logo
The Greater Wenatchee Regional Public Facilities District have given Global Entertainment 90-days notice to terminate its management contract for the Town Toyota Center.
The PFD and Wenatchee City Staff provided Global an ultimatum May 19th to provide a revised budget, reduce its management fee by $20,000 a month and fix accounting and money-handling problems identified by city staff during a 6-month review.
Projections based on the 6-month profit and loss statement provided by Global Entertainment showed estimated losses of over $148,000 in Town Toyota Center's first year of operation.  The revised budget provided the PFD and staff only improved projections by $17,000, eliciting the exclamation of Wenatchee City Finance Director Mark Calhoun..."this is the best you can do?!"
The operating budget provided by Global and passed by the PFD and City in July, 2008, estimated first-year profits of $839,000.  Outgoing Town Toyota Center General Manager Rob Cline was left to just shake his head at the June 3rd public meeting and say, "we all hoped this first year would be better."
Wenatchee City Executive Services Director Allison Williams says RFP's have already gone out to search for a new management firm and "...we've received promising results so far."  City staff are also searching for a new manager of the $53.8-million indoor facility along the Wenatchee waterfront.  Williams says all ticketed events scheduled during the 90-day termination period will go off as planned.
Rams Find Winning Contagious
Rams Playoffs    Maybe there's something in the water for Wenatchee Valley sports teams.  The Wenatchee Valley Rams are following the lead of the Wenatchee Wild by playing for a league championship this Saturday.
Wenatchee downed South Sound in Lacey last weekend 31-24 to advance to this weekend's title game in the Washington Football League.  It was only a month ago that Wenatchee's hockey team played for the NAHL title game against St. Louis.
The Rams will face the Spokane Wolfpack Saturday at 6pm at Wildcat Field in East Wenatchee.  Spokane advanced to the WFL championship with its 19-13 win over Yakima.  Gates will open Saturday with a barbecue at 5pm.
10 Years of Summer Collegiate Baseball Celebrated in Wenatchee
AppleSox 10th Anniversary    It's hard to believe that Gary Lewellen and Bud Adams led a group of rag-tag collegians and high school graduates into an inaugural season of Wenatchee AppleSox baseball a decade ago.
But it's true, and another season began on the road at Moses Lake last weekend.  Wenatchee won the lightning-shortened opener 10-3 and was rained out on Saturday.  The 'Sox and Pirates will play a doubleheader Wednesday at Larson Field beginning at 5pm.
On the field, Manager Ed Knaggs begins his 9th season at the helm.  The Wenatchee High varsity coach has led the 'Sox to three league championships and four division titles.  Off the field, Owner Jim Corcoran and General Manager Ken Osborne have worked magic through the turnstiles to make Wenatchee the highest attended franchise year after year.
The AppleSox begin the home part of the schedule this Friday at Paul Thomas, Sr. Baseball Field against Spokane.  For more on the AppleSox, check out their website at www.applesox.com.  Find out more about the West Coast League at www.wccbl.com.
