Wenatchee Valley Sports Council News
Greetings!
Hello and welcome to our June newsletter. Yes, I've been busy fishing, but not too busy to take care of the business at hand with the Wenatchee Valley Sports Council
With school getting out, June is one of our busiest times in the Wenatchee Valley for tourism.
We gladly welcome visitors and locals alike to experience what the Wenatchee Valley has to offer from our facilities, to our weather, to our water...ENJOY!
Sincerely,
Eric Granstrom - Director

Cycle Washington Memorial Ride Facing Deadline The 2nd Annual Cycle Washington Memorial Ride is facing cancellation if more riders don't sign up by Friday, June 6th. Organizers of the two-day, cross-state ride have set the deadline as a way to adequately plan for the June 21-22 event. According to organizers, 50-additional riders will need to register by Friday or the ride will be cancelled. Interested riders can sign up on-line at the Cycle Washington website. |
World Harmony Torch Relay Coming to Wenatchee The World Harmony Run is a global relay that seeks to promote international friendship and understanding. As a symbol of harmony, runners carry a flaming torch, passing it from hand to hand travelling through over 100 nations around the globe. The US run began in New York City on April 10th and will come through Wenatchee on Friday, June 27th. Each stop features a 30-minute tribute to locals who have helped create harmony in their community.
We also need runners. Once the torch reaches the World Harmony Ceremony location at Walla Walla Point Park, we'll have a half-hour celebration, honoring those who have meant so much to the Wenatchee Valley. Then, the torch will make a procession around the Apple Capital Loop Trail. We'll need about 80-runners who will each carry the torch for an eighth of a mile. If you'd like to run, no matter your age, gender or ability, contact Eric or Allison as well.
The ceremony at Walla Walla Point Park will begin at 11:30am on June 27th with the World Harmony Relay around the Loop Trail beginning at Noon. If you have any questions, contact the Wenatchee Valley Sports Council at 509-663-3723. |
Fish ON! It's Free Fishing Weekend in Washington I caught this beauty smallmouth on Lake Chelan fishing with the Fishin' Magician and Brent Rhodes of KKRV Radio on Friday, May 30th. According to the 'Magician', a.k.a. Dave Graybill, the smallmouths are "nesting up near Chelan and being very protective...so they'll hit almost anything." We also had to work hard to catch 9 great looking kokanee.
Dave is working with the Sports Council on a great new map that will be available soon that will outline great fishing spots in North Central Washington, where to launch your boat and camp for the night. Keep watching the website for details!
Also, don't forget that June 7-8 is Free Fishing Weekend in Washington State. You don't need a license to fish, however you must still abide by the rules regarding waters, catch limits and gear restrictions. Visit the Department of Fish & Wildlife's website for details.
