Good Deeds on Hold
Do to federal legislation, the Wenatchee Valley Sports Council is having to reorganize the way it provides scholarships and grants.
Beth Stipe, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of North Central Washington, informed the Sports Council Board of Directors at an October retreat that the Scholarship Fund and Charlotte Martin Grant would have to be awarded differently.
The board decided to create the Wenatchee Valley Sports Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that would distribute monies from the two funds, which are managed by the Community Foundation. The paperwork is currently being drafted, which is expected to be completed with the new foundation up and running by December or January.
Unfortunately, while the paperwork is being completed, the Sports Council cannot provide scholarship dollars to applicants. Patience is being asked those who have applied for monies while this reorganization is being completed.
Once this is complete, it is the opinion of the Sports Council Board that the newly-created foundation will provide more freedom to do more creative things with the money in the Wenatchee Valley. The Board is also in the process of further defining guidelines by which funds will be provided and when community members can apply. Stay tuned! |
