| Greetings!
February may be the shortest month of the year, but for your friends at Flux, it was one of the busiest.
We participated in Partial Comfort Productions' Battle of the Bards, coming in second for the raucous Audience Favorite Award!
We prepared for our newest staged reading series, Poetic Larceny.
We rehearsed our third Food:Soul, Erin Browne's Narrator One, which played last Sunday to great warmth and cheer.
AND...we cast our upcoming Spring production of Adam Szymkowicz's Pretty Theft! Yup, it's been a busy and productive month, and with Pretty Theft tickets going on sale March 17th, we're only getting started.
Read on, and help us make it all happen.

(Pictured: Michael Davis, Scott Ebersold, Brian Murray, Christina Shipp, Jake Alexander, Erin Browne, Isaiah Tanenbaum, Cotton Wright)On Sunday March 8th, Flux held the third entry in our potluck play reading series Food:Soul with a staged reading of Erin Browne's beautiful play, Narrator One. Read more about play and evening here, and check out pictures from the event here. A special thanks to the cast, director Scott Ebersold, and Erin for their wonderful work! |
Save the Dates for Poetic Larceny
|
In honor of our Spring production of Pretty Theft, Flux will present the staged reading series Poetic Larceny to further explore the theme of what beauty gives and takes.
Over four nights of theatre, sixteen playwrights will 'steal' three things - a line, a character, a theme, a location, anything - from the play before them. See what happens when playwrights like Johnna Adams (The Angel Eaters Trilogy), David Ian Lee (Sleeper), Rob Ackerman (Tabletop), Crystal Skillman (The Telling Trilogy) and more steal a little inspiration from each other.
The plays of Poetic Larceny will be staged over four Mondays: April 6th, April 13th, May 4th and May 11th. Keep your eyes open for an e-blast coming soon with more information on casts, directors, and locations!

How to Help
|
As we venture into
our 2009-10 season during these challenging economic times, we need the support
of our friends, family and dedicated audience more than ever. To help us with a tax-deductible contribution, click here. And a big thank you to those of you who have already given so generously!
Why give to Flux? Just look at what we were able to accomplish last year with your help:
-We were named one of nytheatre.com's
"People of the Year"
-The New York Press called Flux
"The Most Underappreciated Indie Theatre Whose Work You Should Get Your
Ass To"
-We received a grant from the Lower
Manhattan Cultural Council to help support our production of A Midsummer
Night's Dream and The Imagination Compact
-We produced three plays in rep! Our
ambitious Angel Eaters Trilogy, which involved over 50 artists, was
named "Pick of the Week" by nytheatre.com
-Backstage magazine made our production
of A Midsummer Night's Dream a "pick," calling it a
"production of engaging lucidity and immediacy"
-August Schulenburg's Other Bodies
played to sold-out audiences at the NY International Fringe Festival and Flux
member Heather Cohn won a Fringe
Excellence Award for "Outstanding Direction"
-We received an Organizational
Development Grant from Fractured Atlas
-We became members of the Alliance of
Resident Theatres/New York
and The Network of Ensemble Theaters
-We continued our workshop projects Flux Sundays, Have Another and Food:Soul,
helping to develop over fifty plays.
