Gas Fireplace Safety Display at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children |
| The Toronto Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) launched a burn prevention campaign this week and asked HPBAC to provide a display on gas fireplace safety. We developed some display material and, with the help of Alan Baroey of Marsh's Fireplaces in Toronto and Kim Rodgers of Valor Heating, set up a display of safety screens in the atrium at Sick Kids. Alan also worked at the display on Thursday, February 21st, meeting with patients and media and explaining the safety guidelines for these products.
Our thanks to Alan for his time and effort on behalf of the industry, to Valor for providing product and to the manufacturers who responded to our request for photos. |

| Terasen Gas and Western Chapter Planning EnerChoice Awareness Sessions |
Terasen Gas is teaming up with the Western Chapter and HPBAC to develop an EnerChoice Awareness campaign for industry members in BC. The EnerChoice certification mark, launched in 2007, identifies gas hearth appliances that are in the top 25% of efficiency ratings. All industry members in BC were sent EnerChoice information kits in March of 2007 outlining the program and its objectives.
EnerChoice was developed in response to the BC government's move to introduce legislation requiring minimum efficiency levels for gas fireplaces. The certification mark identifies appliances with higher efficiency ratings in dealer showrooms. The program requires all gas hearth appliances on display to bear an EnerGuide label carrier identifying the FE rating of the appliance on an EnerGuide or EnerChoice label along with the model number. Brochures, posters, POS easel card/brochure holder and label carriers were provided to all dealers.

| Ontario Hosts 3rd Barbecue Education Day |
The HPBAC Ontario Chapter held a Barbecue Education Day in late January in Mississauga. Participants learned about Selling Quality, Selling Service and had their questions on Natural Gas answered by Union Gas technicians. Our thanks to Sean Givens of Powrmatic, Neal Patel of Barbecue Boys, Mark Beriault and Ian Thornley of Union Gas for presenting.
