Namaste!

It's getting later and later.  It's the last day of the month, and yet again I have waited until the proverbial and literal 11th hour to write a note for our monthly newsletter.  I've started in on five different topics-each going nowhere.

Then it occurred to me that maybe there's something in there-just that.  Trust the process.  Keep writing even when nothing good seems to be coming.

Hmm...kind of like the yoga!

Whether seemingly standing still in body or mind or life, in the infamous words of Ashtanga yoga master Pattabhi Jois, "Do your practice and all is coming."  Detach from the outcome. Just keep practicing. In the words of Rumi, "Stop thinking about getting off from work.  Keep digging your well and eventually the joy inside will look out to see who is knocking."

Keep going.  Just practice.  So simple...

Peace,

Jill

July 4 Weekend!

We all know what it's like to hit a rough patch in the road. In those times, we rely on people in our community- be it a civic group, church, or special group of friends- to hold us up and get us through.  We like to think that blue lotus is just such a place.

So, we've started a Love Fund, to help support blue community members in times of need. For your holiday weekend, come in from the heat outside and create some internal heat in the studio! Your favorite instructors will guide you through a mixed-level Vinyasa flow class where all donations and instructor pay go to the blue lotus Love Fund.

All levels welcome! For schedule details and to register, visit the
Web Scheduler.
Wild Lotus in the House!

Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band

Knockin' on the Heart's Door~
Bhakti Vinyasa

Dive into the depths of Bhakti yoga-- the ecstatic yoga of the heart-- in this powerful session devoted to freeing the spirit through passionate chanting, creative Vinyasa yoga flows, rhythmic pranayama and soulful poetry. Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band, hailing from New Orleans, will accompany portions of the class, providing a live soundtrack for your practice with mystical rhythms and enchanting melodies. 6:30 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, July 10.

Mystic Mantra Music~Kirtan!

Savor the spicy grooves and dreamy melodies of New Orleans' Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band, who put a funky, mystic twist on kirtan, the mantric music of India. Sean and the band have been receiving international attention for their delightful chant music that subtly merges the spirit of India with the soul of New Orleans. The band tours worldwide seeking to inspire freedom through the blissful power of music and chant.

The evening's candlelight concert will consist of call-and- response chanting and mantra-based songs that soothe your soul in one moment and drive you into wild celebration in the next. Doors open at 8pm Thursday, July 10.

Yoga Fun for the Whole Family
Family Yoga Workshop
Get the whole family involved in yoga play! Experience the beauty and wonder of your family, free from thoughts of the day's routine busyness, at the Family Yoga Workshop. Here, you and those you love are welcome to simply be, together. ALL ages are welcome -- infants, toddlers, young children, older children, teens, young adults, older adults, grandparents...and everyone in between! Yogis under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 1:30 - 2:30, Saturday, July 12.

Kids' Yoga Series
Yoga is a great way for kids to get connected to their bodies. Yoga stretches their bodies and minds, and boosts their confidence. It can help bring active minds into union with active bodies, and can help kids learn to calm both, while feeling empowered by their ability to learn new poses in a non-competitive environment. The Yoga for Kids six-week series might be just the thing for your young yogi or yogini!  4:15 - 5:00 pm, Tuesdays, starting July 15.

Movie Night & Veggie Potluck
movie camera Check out the Recipe of the Month

Don't feel like cooking a whole meal in this heat?  Then just bring your favorite vegggie dish to our Movie Night and Veggie Potluck at 6:30 pm on Saturday, July 19.
You never know what delecacies will show up, but no doubt they will be tasty, like this dish from a potluck earlier this year.

Yvonne's Quinoa Mix
The beauty of this recipe is its flexibility. Exchange the Gorgonzola and pear for other fruit and strong cheese (feta and strawberries, apples and grated Gruyere or sharp cheddar), or experiment with different nuts, beans, a sprinkling of balsamic vinegar--whatever your heart desires (or your pantry has to spare)!

Combine and bring to a boil:
2 cups water
1 cup of red quinoa (you can find this at Whole Foods, or use regular quinoa)
Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes (or until water has been absorbed).

Cool the grain for about an hour, and then add the following:
4 scallions, chopped
Handful or more of crumbled walnut pieces
Handful or more of dried cranberries
Handful of Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
One juicy pear, chopped

Add a little olive oil and mix well. Salt to taste; refrigerate overnight for best flavor.
