What do you say when someone shares sad news?

Twice this past month I've received "those" phone calls; the ones from loved ones where your stomach drops just hearing the tone of voice on the other end of the line; knowing something is wrong.

Whether through nature or nurture we often move quite automatically into sympathy/empathy-taking on another's sadness or grief.  And while I believe this is a useful and appropriate initial response- to be compassionate and embracing of the human situation- it's not helpful to anyone for us to STAY in that state.

When someone we love is experiencing grief, sadness, anger or fear-all highly contagious emotions-perhaps there is a better way to offer support than mirroring the feeling in which they are embroiled.  The option of meeting grief with sweetness; sadness with comfort; anger with peace; fear with love is always there.  We are always cultivating SOMETHING, so ask yourself: what do you want for yourself and what do you want to offer to those you love?

What I shared was a great reminder from the practice:  Remember the Truth that beneath it all, all is well, you're okay, and love surrounds you.

Knowing that, at the core of your being, you can face ANYTHING.

Blessings to my dear friends and blessings to you.

Peace,

Jill

Where are all the men?
Refine & Align Your Practice Yoga Class for Guys

Guys can gain so much from a yoga practice, so where are all the men??

Introduce the men in your life to yoga with this perfect gift -- just in time for Father's Day, too! They'll laugh, learn and limber up in a no-pressure, non-competitive environment. Whether he's a gridiron god, an armchair athlete or a regular Joe, he'll enjoy this lighthearted approach to what yoga can do for him.

Along with a practice for strength and flexibility, we'll look at the myths and maxims of what it means to be a man who does yoga. From increasing strength and stamina and decreasing stress, to improving sexual health -- even helping him with a more balanced golf swing -- yoga has something for every guy.

All levels welcome! 10:30 am - 12:30 pm, Saturday, June 21.
$15 in advance. To register, click the Workshops tab at the
Web Scheduler.

Rhythmic Flow YogaKristin Cooper
With Live Drumming

Rhythmic Flow Yoga is a transformational Vinyasa-based practice developed by Kristin Cooper Gulak and guided and inspired by the creative rhythms of live drumming. Rhythmic Flow yoga has evolved as a communal yoga experience, consisting of five elemental practices: Earth, Water, Air, Fire & Space. Each elemental practice is a synthesis of specific vinyasa sequences & kriyas.

Kristin will guide you in the first half of the practice, and then plays percussion with the other drummers, gradually leading you into your own personal prana sadhana. Closing your practice, you will have the opportunity to move into your own free form expression of yoga asana, while the drummers accompany you.

Beginners are welcome, especially those who may feel nervous but have that curious spark -- this is a special, live, liberating, creative, juicy, evolving practice. Come play!

Earth Practice, 6:30 - 8:30 pm, Friday, June 13.
Fire Practice, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 14.

$35/practice in advance; $40/practice at the door, space permitting. $65 for both practices in advance.

For more information or to register, click the Workshops tab at the Web Scheduler.

Refine & Align Your Practice, Take 2

Our first Refine & Align Workshop was such a success, we are conducting a second class by  popular demand!

Spend a Saturday afternoon with Jill working on proper alignment in your postures for a safer, more enjoyable vinyasa practice. This workshop will include discussion, Q&A, hands-on and partner work. It's appropriate for anyone with at least six months of regular, consistent yoga practice.

Bring your own questions, a notebook, and willingness to get into the nitty-gritty of asana! We'll cover different postures than Refine & Align #1, and you are welcome to attend even if you missed the first workshop.

1:30 - 4:30 pm, Saturday, June 7. $40 in advance, space is limited. For more information or to register, click the Workshops tab at the Web Scheduler.

Chakra Balancing:  Sixth Chakra (Third Eye)

Trusting Your Intuition

Sixth Chakra -- Third Eye

Ajna, the Sanskrit word for the sixth chakra means "beyond wisdom," meaning that balancing this chakra helps us move past intellect to an intuitive knowing of the deep inner truths about our Selves and our spirits. In the body, imbalance at this chakra is often felt as eye problems, headaches, poor memory and difficulty concentrating.

Join Matthew for this Chakra Balancing Workshop, 10:00 am to Noon, Sunday, June 6.
